I still consider myself a newbie - as I have only been at this since early December. But I thought it would be great if we all posted some ideas to help make this easier. I know that there is no way to do this effectively if you aren't organized. I have made a file on each account that I am disputing and I keep everything together. I also bought some index cards and I write down the name of the company, address, phone number, when I sent the letters, etc. on the card and when I get my green cards back, I staple them to the index card. I guess my biggest peice of advice would be NEVER THROW ANYTHING AWAY. Even if you are constantly getting updated copies of your credit reports in the mail, keep all of them. They will come in handy if a CRA puts something back on your credit report that has already been deleted or whatever. Maybe some of you could add some of your ideas?
I make a copy of all my disputes and keep everything (credit reports and all) in a three ring binder with dividers separating each credit bureau, disputes, laws, and consumer information. Dani
1. Be patient and positive throughout your process. 2. Know that you didn't get into this overnight and you sure as he!! won't get out of it by morning. 3. Don't give up. 4. Keep a tight paper trail. 5. Be very organized and chronological with your work: a) Equifax file b) Exp file c) Trans Union file d) Collection agency file Besides, the working timeline helps should you need to enter into legal arenas.
This is great. I hope others post their suggestions. The three ring binder is an excellent idea. I am going to do that! (I knew there would be a good use for that three hole punch I was gonna put in the yard sale but decided to keep! ha!) And it's true - you definitely need patience for this. Every time I get a little discouraged, I just remnd myself that I have several years worth of crap on my credit report. I cannot clean it up in a day.
