Four years ago, I was a member of a local bank and apparently wrote some bad checks. They never really tried to collect: just closed the accounts and never reported to CRAs. Today they sent me a letter saying they'd like to have my business again but I need to pay the $225.25 I owe. Now I'm afraid: if I pay, I might be able to get back in with this bank but then it would be like admitting the debt. If I don't, then they might mess with my credit. I am pretty sure half or more of this is the bank's bounce fees......what should I do? I plan to demand validation.
did they say they would report you if you didnt pay them. The sol is probably up in your state anyway. if they havent reported you by now, they probably wont. was this from the bank or a collection agency representing the bank. be careful.
The bank itself. It is affiliated with my university. I opened the account my first day of freshman year and fudged it up within 2 months. Now I'm four months away from graduating: I wonder if there's a connection?
banks dont usually report to CBAs. they usually report you to chex. Are you in chexsystem for this? Make them take you out if you pay and get that in agreement. i seriously doubt it will appear on a credit report. if you want to rebuild bank relations this may do it. good luck.
Nope, not in Chex or TeleCheck or ArJay over it. I'm just wondering if it's worth the $225.25. I know I wrote a bunch of checks in a few days to convenience stores and wrote them $10 over each for cash, but I didn't think I racked up that much in fees.
well what you did is illegal. just remember that. it is up to you if you pay it or not. only you can determine if it is worth it.
I didn't do it with the intent to defraud, I was just stupid managing money and didn't balance my checkbook.
Pay the bill! Run! I'd go in person with cash or MO in hand, ask for the Branch Manger. Ask to delete any derogs from Chexsystems. Those listings stay on for 5 years! Try and open an account with another bank if you are on Chexsystems, you can just about forget it. I'd be running to the bank to regain their trust and clear your name. Even if you aren't on Chexsystems, bad checks are criminal offenses and they could prosecute you (although unlikely due to the time element). Also, I would also loose the word "apparently" when discussing the bad checks with bank employees. Good luck.
Pay it, author! Why do you want to risk all the hard work you have done to clear up your credit file over $225? It sounds like this bank was kind to you by not reportng it to Chex or the CB. And they are willing to do business with you again, what is there to debate, you have the funds to pay it. Just do it girl! And get it in writing that they wil not report it. It can show up on your credit report because it happened to me and after a few well placed calls it was removed and it was the bank's fault, but I had to fight with EQ and EX and the CA to finally get it removed. All I am saying is don't chance it. Cypri
