Please help! After countless letters and a complaint to the AG & BBB, I finally received a response from Macys. I disputed the account as not mine, and Macys answered with old account statements, no signed contract. In their letter, Macys stated the account charged off 3/97, but since no communication was received through any billing statements or information, they are willing to delete all "derogatory remarks form national credit bureaus" ,restore credit privileges if I agree to pay the balance. Should I pay even though the debt is well past the statue of limitations, and not mine? Will they really take the account out of R9, and agree it is paid as agreed, or mark it a paid charge off. The amount is low. Thanks

Before you pay them anything have them put in writing they will remove all negative remarks from tl and show acct to be in a postive status. That is probably not much information, but I am a newbie here and have been told this before. Hope it helps!

    Thanks to all of you.
Normally, I would not consider doing this, however, I am trying to get a car loan now, and this is really hurting my score

If the account is not yours, how did they come up with old statements? Were they at your address?

One statement has a correct address, the other 12 statements do not have the correct address.

If the debt is truly not yours,,, absolutely do NOT pay, tell them you wish to speak to the consumer fraud dept. sign the affadavit, and agree to assist in any investigation. And tell them you not only want this removed, but you want an apology. If you pay this, you are a fool. If you have some idea that maybe this could be yours,, then you pay it. but dont sign the affadavit, because if you do you could find yourself in some hot water.
