I am currently using a credit counselor, but I contacted one of my creditors and I can settle for an amount I can afford to pay them in one lump. Is it good to settle? How does settling affect your credit report? How does having a creedit counselor affect your credit report?

A settlement will destroy your credit report. However, if they are gonna sue then sure you have no choice. Just remember if the difference is over $600 you pay taxes on it. IF it is less they will resell the debt and then you get to start all over again. If you are gonna settle then go for full deletion and get it in writing.

So a settlement is not good? I should continue to pay them through the credit counselor? SI using a credit counselor good? Or should I try to make the payments on my own?
