This is full of such great info I had to revive it.

Our biggest mistake... almost letting someone "fix" our credit for us. She was supposed to assist us with getting our morgage. Good thing I double checked the letters before she sent them. She had wrong info on most of the letters (disputing items that weren't on certain reports), and was going to send documents to prove certain items should be included in bk. Yikes!!

Now we just study here and can rebuild our own credit.

    What about this one:
My biggest mistake was not finding Creditnet before and right up to my credit problems (first late payments...) I would have avoided some potential mistakes.

okay here are my goofball moves...

i too, half assed my credit repair... i jumped on the dispute band wagon too quick...

i disputed as 'closed' ... they never responded so the trades were changed 'as per my request' CLOSED, so i had to wait 30 more days to get them knocked off my report.

here is another one... i sent d/v letters to ca's and because i didn't understand why the account numbers on my credit report were jumbled with xxxx i just sent them my social security number!!! well they were verified with the cra... go figure...

and the big one... i discovered credit repair options when no one was bothering me!! so i woke up all these collection agencies that hadn't been writing or calling for years... i just hope i don't get sued...

Becoming JOINT on all my DW accounts, and making her JOINT on mine.

although it did increase my scores in the short term...

now when I have a balance on a card it pulls down BOTH our scores!

Always use AU, IMO. that way, you can always get them off later if need be.

Hello this is my first post to this forum. I AM A NEWBIE. This is probably why this question is sort of silly, but what is UDF that is discussed in one of the posts herein? I was wondering what mistake the person had made.

Thanks for your nice response. I should be putting together a nice post regarding the Fair Credit Billing Act when I get my letter written. I ran this by an attorney and they thought it was golden.

Great thread... my mistake..um..marrying an unorganized man with bad credit & no desire to fix it. Does that count? The only negative on my report is a late from GMAC. I sent off a payment that "got lost in the mail". Sent another payment that was also lost & then later found in dh's brief case. (about 2 months after the late was posted)

My mistakes with his credit report, the biggest was just finding an old credit card bill & transferring the balance to my credit card w/o talking to anyone. W/o knowing it was already sold. By miracle, the CA couldn't validate & came off fairly easily. Also a miracle that the OC came off Exp. after I declared it was paid. I knew nothing about reports or repair. Ugh.. I have to go through the same process with TU & EQ now.

Well we sometimes hook up with people with different aims in life. Just explain to him that having good credit is important.

I sent copies of my discharge papers. Will this hurt me later on.

If you sent them to the CRA's it will hurt for 7 years from the date of the BK. Sending discharge papers to a CRA is about the worst thing you can de in terms of getting your credit fixed.
