I have an account that it listed twice on my report. It is the same account number except one has a 01 infront of it. I only have and have only ever had, 1 account with the company. It just showed up today and lowered my score 20 points!!! Is this a violation of the FCRA???
Same thing happened to me on my Equifax report. I had two accounts that were listing duplicates with the same amounts but the numbers were different by like one digit. I think Equifax is doing something screwy. I would just dispute them as duplicates. That is what I did.
It often occurrs when an account is placed for collection or bought by another lender. The collection company or new lender "change" the account number. Regardless of the reason, IF there is only one account, it is not accurrate to report the SAME account twice. Maybe if you provided a little more about the accounts, the differences etc, it would be more clear what you can do
If it is placed with collection or a new lender wouldn't the name of the tradeline reflect the new business's name or the collection agencies name? The only difference between the tradelines on my report is that the account number on one has a 01 infront of the account number. All the rest of the numbers in the tradeline are the same. Also everything else except the account number on the 2 tradelines is identical down to the letter.
Send a dispute to the reporting agency disputing THE ACCOUNT # of the duplicate account as a duplicate account. This should clear it up..should!
Wouldn't happen to be GLHE would it? I have the EXACT same problem. Just disputed as duplicate to all 3 agencies and still awaiting response.
Re: Re: Tradeline listed twice on report. Mine is from Citi/GLHE. It was a student loan which was "rehabilitated" and sold to a new bank just recently. I called GLHE and asked them about it being reported twice, and both of them negatively. They suggested to contact each CRA first and dispute it through them. If the CRA did not remove the inaccurate info they would deal with them.
