I am new here and have learned quite a bit from the board & the Unoffical Board FAQ page, but am a bit overwhelmed by all of the information available. So forgive me if I don't provide enough information or ask a really stupid question. I pulled a copy of my credit report last week and Transunion has a collections item listed, but I have no idea what it is for. I did pay off several collections ago, but can't think of what this one is for. What I find odd is that the date open is from 11/95, the balance date is from 9/03 there is no collector name. So, my question is this. Do I ask them to validate the debt? Or should I dispute to have it removed due to the age? I don't want to make the situation worse. Here is what the tradeline looks like. Collector Account Number 5089152 Ownership Individual Date Open 11-1995 Balance Date 09-2003 Balance Amount $0 Date of Status Status PAID I appreciate any suggestions on how to deal with this.
My opinion is "inaccurate reporting". I would noramally say dispute with CA 1st, and then with CRA but how can ya' dispute a debt with a CA if you don't know whom the CA actually is?!?! I am thinking to dispute with the CRA as "inaccurate information", and a violation per the FCRA. Whether they rcvd the CA name or not, they added this to your file. My point is that whether it was added incorrectly or added correctly by the information they received, they are still in violation of the FCRA for reporting inaccurate information. My opinion, so please let others opine! Anyone???
