Trans Union asking for paperwork

I recently found this forum and decided to use the information here to help get my credit reports correct. In 1999 I went bankrupt and never realized how many creditors did not update the information afterwords. Last week I sent TransUnion a complaint about all the problems with their reporting. I used their online system

I had many problems, most were just sitting there still in collection or some said Repo for a truck I had which was not repo'ed. I sent in the complaint stating it was in the bankruptcy most of these accounts were and some were just reporting incorrect information period.

Well yesterday I got a letter from TransUnion stating I had to send in all of the court files from the bankruptcy. I was under the impression that since the creditors were the one reporting wrong it is up to them to correct it? Is this normal for a CRA to demand I prove the information is incorrect?

Also if I must comply with them is there a way to get the bankruptcy paperwork? My ex-wife took most of these types of paperwork when we divorced and now I have nothing.

I have no idea what to do I know nothing about the laws etc. Plus is it wise to just send someone all of your court files?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

IMHO, I wouldn't send TU any of your BK paperwork. Methinks it's not a good idea to do so.

That having been said, you definitely need to get copies of your BK paperwork, especially the discharge papers, just in case there's stuff biting you now. I would first try to get copies of the BK paperwork from your ex-wife, if she still has that stuff. If she's unwilling to provide you with copies of the paperwork, you may be able to get it from the lawyer who handled your case. You most likely will have to pay him for copying the documents and possibly for retrieving them from his storage area.

    Hope this info helps.

    Thanks John,

Do you think they will still contact these old creditors and investigate it? You would think it would be up to them to correct it since it is their mess.

I will call the lawyer and check on that thanks for the advise.

If they don't investigate, then they are in violation of the FCRA. Do not send them your paperwork! Your BK will be glued to your reports for the entire reporting term.

It is not our responsibility to do their job for them. Get familiar with the FCRA and FDCPA.

Sit quiet, and wait out the 30 days. Once it has expired, let us know what they did/didn't do. In the meantime, contact the court where your BK was heard, and order the paperwork. You may need this in the future, but not for the CRAs.
