Last year Trans Union "lost" my credit file. I had obtained a loan in July and when I decided to open an account to purchase something late in August, I found out I, all of a sudden did not have a file with Trans Union. I found that hard to believe and had Trans Union send a copy of what they had (or didn't have as it turned out). Sure enough, my credit file had vanished and the only thing on it at the time were the three inquiries of the place attempting to pull the bureau to extend credit to me. In November, I had a consumer disclosure run and it appeared as though Trans Union had "found me." Even still, there are mistakes (does that surprise us) as well as omissions. Now I just received the disclosure I had pulled last week and it differs a lot from the one I pulled in November. Omissions still omitted (good things were omitted that haven't been reported since prior to last August) and a few items that were there are now gone. Has anyone else ever gone through this with TU or any other bureau for that matter and how have you dealt with it? Someone I know had this happen to them while they were in the process of getting a mortgage and they said they had a miserable time getting the CRA to reconstruct their file. They are still working on fixing the mess. This really, really scares me to think we are at the mercy of the credit bureau in order to obtain credit and something like this can happen.
I had heard a rumor that the CRAs were quietly suffering from a virus that was deleting info and screwing with data. Interesting. I've never heard it possibly substantiated. Too bad it's not a virus that deletes only derogs.
I had not heard about the virus stuff. All I know is that my TU is screwy now. Regarding wishing it would happen to anyone else, remember what they say "be careful what you wish." I say this because not only did my negs come off, they ended up getting reposted when the various creditors reported after my file started to be put back together. The other problem is my paid positives prior to 8/00 are now gone. Because they are paid, the creditor no longer has to update the info. Another bad thing is when this happened, it was impossible to get any credit. I was truly better having some of the negs than nothing at all. A virus written in such a way to delete the negs...now that's the ticket!
By the way, I have my bureau from 7/00 about twenty pages long. Then I come across my TU from 8/00...one page, one side. Pretty hilarious. Then in 11/00 a partial recovery...6 pages. I'm keeping these bureaus for posterity. Without this proof, I don't think anyone would believe me.
IF YOU WANT TO WRITE A VIRUS... TRUE CREDIT LIMIT SHOWN IN ALL CASES. NO PLACE FOR INQUIRES TO SHOW ON CREDIT REPORT.
Yes, this happened to me. I was lost at Experian. So, when they eventually reconstructed, it was a much smaller file, then they found me, only it wasn't me, it was my ex-husband's new wife, and so I had 2 files, one horrible and one less than complete. It was a nightmare..and guess who fixed it...Junum. Yup...I sent them both copies and it was fixed in the first round. Amazing!
Thanks all for giving me a good laugh because when I look at this, I could cry! Nana, TU did something similar with my file it looks like two different files (there are differences). One has 12 pages, says I have been in their files since 83 and correct birth date, however my last name is horribly mispelled. The other "reconstructed" report shows on file since 8/2000, wrong birth date, but my name is spelled correctly. One shows a BK and the other doesn't among other incorrect info. I guess none of this should surprise any of us.
