Any idea's on how to get rid of transferred accounts on your credit report. For example I have a student loan that has been transferred to 3 different lenders. The loan is now paid off but it stilll has the other transfers on there. Wouldn't getting rid of those raise my score? I have written the agencies and they have basically refused to remove them saying that the person looking at the report will know it has been transferred and will see that the last person holding the account has been paid. I find that to be incorrect. I tried to finance a car two weeks ago and the sales person said I should file for bankruptcy because of what was listed. I informed them that the accounts that say transferred have now been paid and you can't file bankruptcy on student loans anyway. If I can get those 12 lines removed I swear it would improve my score. What should I do?
Are they showing an open balance? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe accounts that were sold or transfered should show a 0 balance. If they are showing a balance, then dispute them with the CRAs. You could try disputing as 'not mine' first to see if they will go away, but at the very least dispute the balance. Also, if you can get paperwork from the creditors saying the account was transfered you could submit that to the CRA's, but I would only do that as a last resort as it puts proof that the accounts are yours in their hands. If you want to try to get rid of them later it could prove hard. HTH, Brett
Thanks, they have it listed as a 0 balance in the comment line it says bad student debt collection status. My report says nothing of the consolidation loan taken to pay it off and that I am in good standing with them for the past 6 months.
