Hey everyone, Looking for next steps here. About a week ago I sent the following to Transunion. They simply sent me back a letter telling me their credit retention policy. IE - They keep bankruptcies 7 years, etc... This was CLEARLY a generic message and CLEARLY they didn't read my letter. I snail-mailed it since I'm hoping to get better results. The entire "package" with supporting documentation was about 10 pages... What should my steps be Here's my letter <---- Letter Below ------> Trans Union Consumer Relations P.O. Box 2000 Chester, PA 19022-2000 To Whom It May Concern, Recently I used your online service to see a copy of my credit report since I was declined for an apartment rental. Upon reviewing my credit profile I found some inaccuracies that I would like removed from my file. The first inaccuracy is from Altegra credit. They are reporting that I was late on a mortgage payment in November of 2003. This is untrue. What had happened was that they mistakenly double billed my bank account on November 1st and caused several checks to bounce. This also caused the payments back to them to not be processed. They were very polite about refunding my bounced check fees, but I had no idea that they would report this inaccuracy to your credit bureau. I would like this payment shown as paid on time for November 2003 since the payment would have been on time had they not made a mistake. The next item involves Dearborn Federal Credit Union. Although I have had several accounts with them, none of them have been charged-off as shown on my report. They are listing account #2511772200 as a collection charge-off. I believe they have mistaken me with someone else. My accounts are in good standing with them and completely paid off. I would like this removed from my credit profile. Another incorrect item I found was by a collection agency called Park Dansan. It appears they are collecting for an MCI bill. I have never had MCI long distance, so I believe this does not belong to me. I would also like to have this removed from my credit file. Furthermore they do not appear on my Equifax credit profile. Finally, is a company OSI collections who has been on my credit report for some time now. I have requested in the past to have them removed since I never heard of Oakwood Satellite. Attached with this letter is a letter that I sent to them asking for validation of the debt. I never received a reply and it has been almost 1 year. I would appreciate it if you remove them from my credit profile. Like the Park Dansan item, OSI collections does not appear on my Equifax profile. Thank you, Bryan C. Fleming
But from my letter isn't it clear that I'm disputing these inaccuracies and shouldn't they have to open an investigation? - Bryan
Hey Brian, Did you call them to dispute? I always find that this is more direct, especially since you got your report recently (I think it has to be within 30 days, unless you have that yearly thing where you can check every day if you want to). It sounds like you have been a victim of identity theft. The first thing you should do is put a fraud alert on your account and try to get someone on the phone. When you speak to them, have them launch investigations into these accounts.... Best of luck!
I wouldn't call them. It appears you have set them up pretty well. I would wait the 30 days and demand deletion for not investigating within the 30 day time frame per the FCRA. FWIW - TU is notorious for sending generic letters during an investigation. It does not necessarily mean they aren't investigating.
