I ordered my report over the phone. They sent me a letter asking for a document to verify my current address (check stub, signed homeless shelter letter (wtf?!), current driver's license, etc.). How annoying!! I gave them my social security # over the phone. Just send the damned report!!
no. apparently, i need to fax or send them proof of residency at my current address. (which is why i thought it was odd that one of their examples was a homeless shelter signed something or other) hey, transunion, The early 80s called, they want their dot-matrix printers and computer technology back.
I had this happen to me and it was because I moved and the address I was giving them wasn't the same as on the report. I sent them a copy of a bank statement(numbers blocked out) and I got my report.
signed homeless shelter letter .. LOL. LOL>LOL>LOL>LOL>LOL> i cant stop laughing. I think the last thing i would be ordering is my credit report.LOL
When will transunion wake up, they make me so SICK. It is like don't you get it already. They wanted me to do the same thing. I ignored their request and simply wrote a letter disputing all the things I saw in a tri-merge. They sent me a new report after the investigation. Simply put.. They are not the Bill Gates of the reporting industry
Here's one of my previous posts Freddie. Your CRA is merely asking you to verify your identity. Though we suspect it's just a tactic to delay everything they never-the-less have the right to do so. I've gone through the same thing many times. Here is the most recent letter I sent to a CRA which does the trick. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Dear Sirs: I understand your desire to have me demonstrate my identity. However I don't believe I am required to provide all that inconsequential information on your questionnaire. This request is properly notarized and a copy of my Social Security card is enclosed. I demand that you proceed without further delay. [ Explain the components of your dispute HERE ] Optional: I am justifiably very upset with this situation. You now have, in hand, sufficient information to prove my position. I require immediate removal of this item from my credit report. (This applied to me but it may not apply to you. Remove it if it doesn't) This letter in no way should be considered a waiver of my right to pursue this further. Regards, Mr. Butch SSN# 123-45-6789 DOB mm/dd/yyyy ******************************************************* Sworn to before me and subscribed by Gabriella XXXX, in my presence this ______ day of _________, 2002 ___________________ Notary Public $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Include the "sworn to before me" line as a courtesy to your banker. Photo copy the front of your SS card and take your letter to your bank. They will be most happy to notarize it free. Just tell them you're a customer. Send it CRRR and keep copies of everything. Don't supply them with any other info. at this point. Good Luck and keep us posted. I might add something like "You now know this is my address BECAUSE I'M TELLING YOU IT IS!"
Isn't is amazing the shit they make you go through to prove EVERYTHING you say, from your identity to the wrong shit they're reporting- meanwhile, they'll hand over your credit profile on a silver platter to any thug requesting it. Why don't THEY have to show permissible purpose??
They DO! § 607. Compliance procedures [15 U.S.C. § 1681e] (a) Identity and purposes of credit users. Every consumer reporting agency shall maintain reasonable procedures designed to avoid violations of section 605 [§ 1681c] and to limit the furnishing of consumer reports to the purposes listed under section 604 [§ 1681b] of this title. These procedures shall require that prospective users of the information identify themselves, certify the purposes for which the information is sought, and certify that the information will be used for no other purpose. Every consumer reporting agency shall make a reasonable effort to verify the identity of a new prospective user and the uses certified by such prospective user prior to furnishing such user a consumer report. No consumer reporting agency may furnish a consumer report to any person if it has reasonable grounds for believing that the consumer report will not be used for a purpose listed in section 604 [§ 1681b] of this title.
I didn't mean in legal terms, I know they technically should but the problem is, they don't do it in reality. I have 4 inquiries on my reports that does not have permissible purpose.
