I can not disagree with this statement enough. We had so many opportunities to prevent this particular attack that it makes me sick to my stomach. Who is to blame? The Government? FBI? CIA? FAA? INS? Everyone? People are focusing on only a few of these, but everything that could go wrong did go wrong. The CIA knew that two of the hijackers were in the U.S. and sent the information to the FBI which was put on a "watch list". An Iranian was detained in Europe and warned of the attack and specifically mentioned the WTC as a target. Was anyone warned? Why not? Was entities afraid of disrupting "business as usual" in the event that the warning was a hoax? How many of these people were in the country illegally? Of course no one would have dreamed of terrorists hijacking a commercial airliner to use as a damn flying bomb. But, with as many of these airliners hijacked every year, have we done enough to increase airline security? Absolutely not. Security specialists walked through security over and over with guns, knifes, swords, and even simulated bombs years before this tragedy. One airline could not account for hundreds of security identification badges. This is unacceptable. Even after this haneous tragedy committed by cowardly terrorists, a pilot walked through security without ID and two flight attendants walked through with a knife and a corkscrew. Does it sound like airports are more secure now? Is the FAA afraid to inconvenience travelers at the expense of safety? Did we as Americans become too complacent? Didn't the attempted Millenium attack give us some warning of events to come? And yes hindsight is 20/20, but I only hope that we can learn as a nation from this and work together to prevent other haneous terrorist attacks. Lastly, if a foreigner comes to the United States from anywhere, including the Middle East, if you become a citizen, you are then an American citizen. If you are offended with people waving the American flag and chanting "USA! USA!", then you should get the hell out. If you are not yet a citizen, for whatever reason, shut your mouth if you don't support the USA because contrary to myth, you have no rights in America. I'm done. God Bless everyone touched by this tragedy.
Exactly. This is America, it doesn't matter if the universities are multi-cultural or not, it's still America. I don't think that flying our flag in our country is offensive. If someone who doesn't live here takes offense at that, then tough! I don't go to a strangers house uninvited and expect them to do things the way that I would like them to because I am a visitor. The "teachers" that made that decision have other motives behind their actions. That is a fact.
I am sorry to say, the economy will do better because of the war. It has in the past, it will in the future. Just like predictions of complete chaos on 1/1/00, predicitons of economic doom on Monday will not materialize. Yes, the market may go down the limit, but it will comeback. We are counting on it. www.creditsense.com
Well, Mikeb: I didn't really want to get off into all the things you did. I can't disagree with you at all, I just didn't want to go there. But let me ask you a question or two since you did. Since you bring up the subject of blame, has our government failed in it's constitutionally mandated duties to protect us from all enemies both foreign and domestic? Can the insurance companies use that argument in an effort to make the government foot the enormous costs instead of laying it on them?
