It's been a heck of a week. Somehow my debit card number got hijacked by some creep who proceeded to try to wipe my checking acct out with evil doings thru google checkout, paypal and some bogus Iceland based website. Luckily due to my obsessive compulsive ways I caught the charges within a few days, had the card cancelled, disputed the charges with my bank, filed a police report and got the money credited back to my acct. Good thing my Christmas fund was in there or I would have had NSF fees and all that jazz. I checked my credit reports and CC's to make sure they weren't compromised and it appears the debit card number was the only thing stolen. I don't know how it happened, it hasn't been out of my possession and I only used it a few places in town. I prob won't ever know what happened. Then I pull my tri report yesterday and there is a hard inquiry from a company I had an account with in the past. I had a mobile home that I let go back in 2004, they sold it for what was owed and issued me a 1099. It was reporting as a repo until 4/07 when I was apping for my current house they were able to call that company and have it updated correctly as paid 0 balance on my report. I had alot of help from BizWiz on that one! It now shows as Paid, 0 balance. So why do they pull a hard on me 10/17? Doesn't seem to me they have any permissable purpose. Wondering if I should dispute that inquiry. Gggggrrr...... think I am gonna bite! Tegleg
Who did the hard pull? If I were you I'd put a Fraud Alert on my CR's and get Lifelock - http://www.lifelock.com/default.aspx. A
Teg, So sorry to hear about this mess, I'm truly glad your were able to escape without serious harm to your finances and credit. You may want to get a new debit card (w/ a new account number) if the bank hasn't already issued one. Add a "Fraud Alert" to your credit reports as well. As for the inquiry, that is a strange one. I would dispute it, as the only "purpose" they possibly could have is to verify the correction to the account. You may want to call the company, and ask directly why the made the inquiry. Forewarned is forearmed. Other wise, looks like things are still going in the right direction for you. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the replies! I think I will call this company & ask whats up. I'll do a dispute on the inquiry too. I have been behaving myself, no apps, still paying down the Carecredit and keeping my CC's payed off.
Teg, A good preventive measure is to do a quick daily check of your bank activity on-line. I do this daily myself to verify activity. You can also do this with most CC accounts, and many others. Sounds like someone in your town is pirating numbers, I would trace back my transactions, to narrow it down. I bet the police can narrow it down for you.
