Re: Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... Don't worry about parking, you'll be whipping in and out of parking lots like it's nothing. I'm only 5'0" and I can park mine almost anywhere, but I tend to park way out in parking lots cause I don't want any dings in the doors from folks that don't care about that kinda thing. It is hard to decide between Dodge and Ford diesels, but like I said we have both and we won't part with either of them. I just like the look of the new Fords better. Gig'Em!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... okay okay...think we're going for the dodge....DUALLY Got final approval...6.5% int 650 ish per month. Wow. Getting jittery... Thanks all.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... If the truck is the Lariat package (which for that price, it BETTER be) it should have the little 'beepy thing' LOL on it. It is a rear sensor on the truck and alot of Ford Lariat and Eddie Bauer's come stocked with this option. It is also an optional on other models. My truck has it, an Eddie Bauer, came stock.
It is 'optional' so you probably picked one up that did not have it. But with the Lariat's and the Eddie Bauer's alot come FULLY loaded, including that option. My hubby had an 01' F350 Lariat and his did not have it either. But buddy did he need it. His trucks are all set up for 4 car haulers, he has run a few people over!!! I guess his trailers needed it not the truck. But then he backed into his mothers little Grand Marquis last week with his 3500 Ram last week. So yea, the back of the truck. And he tells me I need it. Yea right!!!!
Well, hubby did pretty well on bargaining... Sticker price $42000 Owed 9500 on trade in...only worth 5000. Ended up bargaining truck down to 27000 (LOT of bickering). The OWNER was so pissed at the sales guy...told him if he ever did it again, he was fired. Ending price: 27000 Tack on 9500 to pay off trade Add ttl Total financed: 38200, including ttl...300 less than what the dealership PAID for the truck, according to their invoice. Also, it was a special order that wasnt picked up, so the dealer lost another 2500 in destination/order charges in addition to this loss Of that 38200 check they will receive, 9500 goes to pay off trade in, pay the sales tax and license, the 2500 destination...etc. This leaves about 24k for the dealer. Dealer just lost 14500 in compared to what they paid for it. Funny thing is...if someone walked in and wanted the truck, but didnt know much about haggling, they would spend the full 42000 less 2k in rebates plus ttl, not including any trade in plus or minus. We sign final contract today. Someone play devil's advocate...PLEASE! Need to make sure this sounds right.
Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... LOL... No, not a typo and I know what youre thinking... I thought the same thing...look at the whole pic. It took me a minute to figure it out. I ragged on hubby till I finally got it. Dealer paid 38500 for the truck, to sell it for 42000. We are financing 38200, including ttl, AND having our trade paid in full. Still paying less for this truck than if we walked in with no trade.
Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... Actually, they took a total of 15k off to come up with the 27500 final price. That includes the 5k they gave us for trade as well.
Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... LMAO... neck is feeling alittle red today, lol. Is this deal making any sense? Seems like the total cost of my trade (9500) is getting eaten and we saved a little bit extra on the truck itself.
Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... Nik, Um not sure - were is TNobles when we need her? I realize that this sounds like a great deal but from your description, it really sounds to me like they are making you juggle to many numbers in the equation in order to confuse the bottom line! So lets look at this line by line. 1) Forget (fuhgedaboudit) the tradein for a moment! You stated that according to the dealer invoice, this truck cost them $38,500 right? What is the selling price of the truck including rebates, incentives but no trade or down payment? 2) Next, you owe $9,500 on the trade-in, but does that mean they are giving you a $5,000 tradein allowance? If so, then this is deducted from the price that we from step 1 - for example dealer invoice of $38,500 - $5,000 tradein allowance. That means we have a sales price (since I dont know the value of rebates or incentives) of $33,500. 3) Sales taxes - I am not sure if this means we deduct the taxes on the value of the trade allowance of $5,000 or the total of 9,500. So lets use straight line numbers and figure out the sales tax later: trade (-) $4,500 Tax = 2093.75 (6.25% in Texas) Title = $25 License = $75 GP Fee = $350 (BS fees the dealer might add) $33,500 + $4,500 + TTL = $40518.75 Now that is without figuring in the tax allownace for a trade-in but somethun jus dont smell right thar missus! Please use the line by line method to fill in the blanks. Michael
Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... No, dealers never pay invoice for the truck. That is just a peice of paper to use for show. They are making a good profit or they wouldn't be selling it. They probably use the line about being fired on most of their customers. Also you mention the $9500 being added to your negotiated price of the truck but who keeps the trade in? They just increased the price by $4500. It sounds like a good price for $42k truck but I could never imagine a $700 a month truck payment. To be frank, it sounds like you are setting yourself up again. In any event good luck and happy driving.
Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... This is along the same lines so I hope you don't mind me hijacking...We are in the process of buying the 2003 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD and for the record we are on a military base overseas, so the base dealer is our only option. There is no haggling, what you see is what you get. The final numbers on the Explorer are: Invoice: $33,318 (fully decked out, to be built to our specs) MSRP: $36,990 (fully decked out, to be built to our specs) Rebate: $4,000 Overseas Delivery/Freight Charge/Inport Processing/Overseas Protection Plan/Owners Protection 7 year/75,000 mile Coverage (with discount)/other incidentals: $3,703 Final Price: $37,693 Price after Rebate: $33,693 Down Payment: $7,193 Total to be Financed: $26,000 Is this a bad deal? We really need a new vehicle and as much as I would love to have the option to shop around we don't. I've seen the kind of deals that Tnobles has spoke about and it makes me extremely jealous! I just don't want to be completely screwed. Oh and btw, we would really like to have a toyota or a honda, but we can't order those for delivery over here. Again, I really didn't want to hijack, but nik has gotten some good thoughts through here and I am hoping for some as well.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... I am sorry but there is always hagling! Are you a member of a credit union? Do you use USAA for insurance? Either of these should be able to offer you a report on what this vehicle should cost. Also, I would suggest that you navigate your way to consumer reports website and spend $10 on a New Vehicle report that will outline what the vehicle should cost the dealer as well as what the available incentives and hold backs that are currently available to the dealer at your base. Before signing on the bottom line, check one of these sources and from the numbers that are obtained, compare! If they are within +/- 10% then I would say that more than likley you are getting a pretty good deal. Alternatively, I also spent a good amount of time in the military and I do seem to recall that the governement will ship vehicles to a number of bases overseas - what is the cost for that? You seem to know what you want so why not use the internet (autobytel.com or some such site) to order the vehicle from a dealer in Connus (wouldnt this mean that you would not have to pay sales tax?) and then have the military ship it overseas for you?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... Okay, let me see if I can do this. Truck sticker price: 42000 Special Order fee: +2500 Total price: 44500 Less -3100 rebate Net price: 41400 + ttl 41400 + ttl is what the price would be if we walked in and did no extra bargaining. Truck invoice price: 38500 Less rebate: -3100 Less trade in: -5000 Less haggling: -4000 Plus ttl +2300 plus trade p/ +9500 Net price: 38200 Dealer forgot to add 2500 order charge...he already signed buyers order told them too bad. The owner actually came in and tore up a buncha paperwork, he was so mad. I told hubby that it was probably just a scam, but after hearing what happened, I dont think so. The owner is also the mayor of the city, so his PR is pretty improtant. He had his family with him at the time. Got really red in the face. After he left the sales guy explained: They receive check for 38200 less payoff for trade: -9500 less taxes to state: -2300 (5k not included) Net leftover from sale: 26400 Dealer paid: 38500 Net leftover:-26400 Loss on special order fee: -2500 Net dealer loss ontruck: -14600 Now, of course, this is if the invoice they showed what they paid was valid. It had the bank name and info on it and was in a huge notebook. If we had walked in without a trade and managed the same price of 38200 (ttl included) on a 41400k truck (before ttl) we would have walked out happy. Now, we are paying 38200 inc ttl and have our 9500 trade in paid off as well. pmnts are 644/mo Hope I explained it at least semi-clearly.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Truck shopping and scores... USAA is awesome...they carry our insurance and are the ones financing this loan at 6.5%. They will tell you anything about the vehicle you want to know.
