Hey folks, here to say i'm a deadbeat and now i'm trying to fix it. screwed up after college, got in over my head. have several cc that were opened between 94-96. they have been charged off. no efforts made to pay, no suits filed, etc. all show on my CR, but show last date reported as '01. accts have been sent to CA that also are on my CR. FICO from CRA range from 580-610. any suggestions as to how to handle? on TU the CA reports show on CR until 2007. i've heard can only be on record for 7.5yrs after original date of delinquency. is this true and should i contact OC to get dates of delinquency or date of charge off? don't want to stir up and get them renewed. also, there a few items that are from mid-90's of accts that i pd. can i leave them, and if so will having those old pd accts help my FICO? hope you guys can help, thanks
Don't know why you didn't get a response. This is easy. The accounts from 94-96 should be gone from your file per the 7 year rule. Write the CRA's and demand they remove those accounts. Same goes for the mid-90's accounts: request the CRA's delete them.
Also it depends on when they were actually charged off. You can have an account open in 1994 but not actually charged off till 1999. I would look into that information and then dispute the dates with the CRA as well as contact creditor directly since sometimes the creditor changes the close dates when a bigger company buys them out.
The charge off date doesn't matter. What's important is the date the derog was first reported as delinquent. 7 years from that date and the derog is removed from your file.
