Hi. I am new to this board. I have been unemployed since March. My last unemployment check is coming next week for only one week of pay. I have had collection agencies contacting me regarding my debts. I have managed to work with them on payment plans and I have settled one debt this month. I have an account with Retailers National Bank. I was unable to pay them for a few months after my unemployment check came in. I only gave them $20 but I was trying to show good faith. Retailers National Bank sent me a letter stating they needed $100 more to send them. I did not have any more money at that time. A couple of weeks ago, I received a letter in the mail about my debt is now at a collection attorney's office. I contacted them and asked to set up a payment plan. They responded back by sending me a letter today stating that I need to give them information first. They want to know all my expenses, what our mortgage is, my husband's income, bank account information, what all my assets are and even all my car information. My dad co-signed for my car and I do not want him involved in this at all. My payments have been on time for the car. I still have 2 years on the lease and I do not think I can get out of it. They also asked if our house was for sale and what our realtor's name is. Our house is for sale because we are moving out of state. The debt is for $809. I have told them I have every intention of paying this debt and am showing good faith. How do I respond back? I do not want my car loan involved at all as I do not want my dad's credit affected. Also, they want my 401K information. They want all that information. Please let me know as soon as possible. I have 5 days to send this letter back. Thanks.
DO NOT give them any of that information. They will clean out your bank account!!!! You are under no obligation to answer their question. It is none of their business. In fact, don't talk to them at all. I don't. Caller ID is a wonderful thing! I'm in the same boat as you are. My unemployment checks stopped last month.IMO breaking a lease is very expensive. There is already a lien-holder(the leasing company). I may be wrong, but I don't think they can do anything about your car. Plus, if you dad is the co-signer,I don't think there is anything they can do about the car. Putting a lien on a car costs $1300.00. For a debt of $809.00? That's hardly worth it.
1*I have managed to work with them on payment plans 2*and I have settled one debt this month. jewelhound =============== 1*Not good money management; should have made them validate instead. 2*Did you get it deleted or did you go for reporting it for the full 7 years? I have not told them anything at this point. I have never had this happen before. The attorney's office told me I have 5 days to respond to this information request. I am just afraid if I wait then they won't allow me to be on a payment plan. However, they don't have any wages to garnish as I am unemployed. Maybe I shouldn't have worked out other payment plans with the creditors but I just want my debts gone as soon as possible.
I'm sure it isn't $809 anymore once they add the attorney's fees. Tell them nothing! Give them NO information. Do not talk to them on the phone. Simply send them $20 a month CRRR. If they cash the check - you are on a payment plan. If they don't accept the money then you know they have no intentions of working with you and they are looking to clean you out or put a lien on your home. Be careful.
Thanks for the information. Any information is helpful. The only thing this office knows is I am unemployed. I think they would have all my information anyway and do not need my input. I was going to mail them $20 next week and see what happens. Thanks
If you can open up another checking account in another bank and put a small amount of money in it. Send a personal check so you will have the cashed check returned to you. Don't forget the CRRR. That's important to show they received it.

Re: Re: Trying to negotiate payment plan You need that personal check for proof that it was cashed. That's why I said open another account at another bank for that purpose.
