I've been trying to pay in full an old medical bill. The original office want's no part of me. They told me to contact the collection agency who listed the account on my report. I wrote to them stating I would pay in full if you agree to remove this from my report. I havent heard from them in a few weeks. How long shoud I wait for a response? In the past, I disputed this and it came back as comfirmed. You would think they would jump at the chance to get paid? Any ideas on how to go from here?
First thing you need to do is validate. Use the Certified Mail/Return Receipt combination to establish a paper trail. Some collection agencies are actually hip to the way people are trying to improve their credit. Make an offer to settle the account if it comes back validated. However, if they don't validate, follow up with another letter. With the proper papertrail, you can get this removed if no efforts are made by the CA to validate this account.

If it is showing up on your Experian report, you will get a complete address listed there. It's great that you want to pay this bill. You should validate first. Use Certified mail return recite requested. Here is a link to the validation letter on this site: http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&pgnum=1&postid=85495#post85495 If you want to go ahead and just offer to pay, here is a generic settlement letter: ------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Creditor Address City, State, Zip Re: Account Number Dear Sirs: This letter is an offer to amicably settle the above account. It is not to be construed as an acknowledgment of my liability for this debt in any form. I will pay your company the amount of $____ as full settlement of this account. If you accept this agreement, I will send you a money order or certified cashiers check for the settlement amount of $______ in exchange for a full deletion of all references regarding this account from my credit profile and full satisfaction of the debt. This agreement is binding and will be void should you not hold up to your end of the agreement. Furthermore the debt will be deleted from my credit profile at all three credit bureaus or the bureaus your company regularly reports to in the course of doing business. If you agree to the above, please acknowledge with your signature and return a copy to me. Upon receipt of this signed acknowledgment, I will promptly send you a money order or cashiers check in the amount stated above. Notice: This agreement is restricted.
