Sigh ... Is it a violation of the law to send collection notices to the wrong address and then report a collection to the CRAs? We are attempting to refinance our mortgage and have scrupulously watched hubby's credit report. Now there is a collection that we had no idea about and shouldn't be there. Turns out, for some inexplicable reason, the notices were sent to an address he lived in five years ago !!! If the debt is valid, we can pay it, but WTF ??? Some notice would have been nice. The mortgage company will settle for a letter from the creditor. What should be our first action?
