I've twice gotten their standard response regarding investigating inquiries. Once in response to my dispute online, now again in response to my letter I sent snail mail. Is there anything more I can do? They did delete two collection accounts which also had two inquiries, but of course the inquiries are still there. Any suggestions would be helpful!

It's been reporting on this board before that, although you receive this letter, the inquiries still find a way to fall off. Is this not true in your case? I'd be interested to know, I just disputed a few inquiries myself???

I have had TU inquiries deleted in the last 2 weeks. I faxed a deletion request on a Friday, and had a new report in my hand on Monday, ten days later.

    The inquiries were removed.

I also received 2 letters stating that TU does not remove inquiries, one before I got the updated report, and one a few days after. Here is my letter.

    ---------------------------------------------------------

In reviewing my credit file number #######, it has come to my attention that there is one inquiry made without my application for new credit and without permissible purpose. The FCRA requires permissible purpose as stated below:

    § 604. Permissible purposes of consumer reports [15 U.S.C. § 1681b]

    (3) Information regarding inquiries. Except as provided in section 609(a)(5) [§ 1681g], a consumer reporting agency shall not furnish to any person a record of inquiries in connection with a credit or insurance transaction that is not initiated by a consumer.

In order to avoid violation of the FCRA please delete the following inquiry.

    3/20/2002 FUSA
I have not applied for any new credit from FUSA. No Permissible Purpose

I also sent an inquiry dispute to TU stating the no permissable purpose reason for the dispute. Got my results back today...five inquiry deletions!

I don't mean to hi-jack your thread...and hope this doesn't, but does anyone know the reason behind not disputing inquiries on accounts you actually opened? Thing is...I've opened quite a few new accounts this year and still have five inquiries on TU so naturally that is one of the codes for my score being so low. Three are Cap One inquiries and each time it resulted in a new account. I was thinking of disputing these as account reviews?

Two are FCNB inquiries. I don't know where the inquiry that was made in 5/2000 came from because I had never applied before this year, but I have an account with them as of last month and so was afraid to dispute it.

If that inquiry opened an account and you didn't authorize it, it might make them put a fraud alert on that account, because you're (indirectly) stating it's not your account.

Just reviewing my TU report...this is DIRECTLY from their page entitled "A Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.":

    - You can dispute inaccurate information with the CRA.
If you tell a CRA that your file contains inaccurate information, the CRA MUST investigate the items...unless your dispute is frivolous

As far as I am concerned that says it IN PLAIN ENGLISH and in TU's OWN WORDS, that TU MUST investigate any inaccurate info including inquiries.

I have a TU inquiry that I did not request, don't even know who it is...I am going to dispute it in writing with a copy of their own words (TU) stating the above and see what they do about it.

I just went online and entered an investigation on the inquiry. When they respond to tell me they don't enter inquiry disputes, I will send them the information THEY sent me, in their words that says they do, then I will tell them they BETTER do it before I make a cool thousand.

I understand that INQUIRES are a "MATTER OF FACT"...but if I tell a credit card company I am interested in a LIMIT INCREASE "ONLY IF NO CREDIT REPORT IS PULLED"...they "PULL" they "PULLED" with-out "PERMISSABLE PURPOSE"!!!

...or a credit card company has my SS# on an application because the person TRANSPOSED the #'s...I get an inquiry...I didn't apply...I WANT IT REMOVED...(no fraud involved...just SS# transposed).

I was hoping this would be true, that they'd fall off despite the letter, but they haven't. I first disputed online in March, sent a letter in April, and each time have gotten their standard letter and no deletions.

Three are from stupid insurance companies when I must have done a rate quote not realizing they pull reports. Two are from collection agencies and TU just deleted the accounts that go along with them! I'm thinking I'll try a more forceful letter about how collection inquiries hurt my report when I do not have any collection accounts. Or something like that.

I too was wondering about disputing inquiries on accounts you actually have. I'm to afraid to do it, has anybody else?
