Check out this letter I recieved today:

    Dear Consumer:

We are in receipt of your correspondence in which you request that we remove unauthorized inquiries from your credit file.

A credit grantor does not have to have written authorization from the consumer in order to pull a credit file, only a permissable purpose is needed. If you feel that the companies who inquired into your credit file did not have permissable purpose as outlined in the fair credit reporting act section 604, you may wish to contact them directly concerning their reason for accessing your file. If they find their inquiry is incorrect, they may provide us with written authorization requesting the removal of the inquiry.

What the heck is this BS. I thought that it was their responsibility to verify that all information is correct??

NEW LAW~~~the bank robber must decide if the officer had "PROBABLE CAUSE" to stop him (a man who came out of the bank with a ski mask and gun)!!!

It is, but occasionally they need a lawsuit to refresh their memory.

THE IRS WILL INVESTIGATE TO SEE IF THE IRS WAS WRONG IN CHARGING YOU A LATE FEE EVEN THOUGH YOUR BANK SAID THE CHECK CLEARD THEIR BANK ONE WEEK BEFORE THE PAYMENT WAS DUE!!!

THE IRS COMES BACK AND SAYS THE BANK MADE A MISTAKE~~~THE LATE FEE STANDS!!!

    <EDIT>

The BANK sends proof to the IRS~~~sorry it's too late we already investigated...LATE FEE STANDS...

That is truly ridiculous, it's not enough that you're guilty until proven innocent. But now you have to go ask your accusers to remove their BS?

P.S. By the way has anybody else noticed that the CRA'S are taking the liberty to add things to your CONSUMER STATEMENT. I recently challenged some inaccurate info on my report and noticed the other day that they put some crap about creditors verifying all info?. I don't mind that but if it's a "COMSUMER" statement why are they adding things to it..and why don't they take their own advice and verify all the false information they put on my report?

    Thanks

TU has put a consumer statement on my report saying: "Do not confuse with others of similar identity."

Seems to me like a backdoor fraud alert. I disputed & they removed it. At first they had some trouble understanding that a consumer statement is a statement made by a consumer.

I'm telling you, the place is run by chimps.

I've gotten that mail piece many times. I've found that by stating under the reason "Not a permissible purpose. This is not my account" they delete it most of the time. It doesn't work every time, but persistence pays off!

Next time you send in an inquiry dispute, send some salted peanuts in the envelope with it. Chimps and monkeys like peanuts.

    Illini,

The FCRA states inquiries that YOU initiate, if you didn't hold them to the fire.

I also received the same letter, but then later had success by disputing online just the inquires while no other investigations were going on. You might want to give that a try.
