I think this is total bs. Has anyone else experienced this?

The rep is lying to you. I've checked on different accounts during disputes many times with no problems, as recently as last month. I suggest calling back and talkng with someone else.
Marci is correct. I just called TU today regarding an account of mine and they told me the status.
I did my first dispute with TU this month, online. I called after receiving the now famout "inquiry" letter, and asked about the other items I disputed. She told me she did not see any tax liens (yeah!), she corrected my birthdate, and made a notation about a person with a simlar name, so I know she could see my full account.
I agree with the others... It sound like a bunch of B.S. to me!!
