My first round of disputes from Trans Union (for hubby) just came back. I am sooooo ticked off, but (thanks to you guys) ready for this challenge.
    First Issue:
On all 3 reports, hubby had a child support debt listed (long story short, he did not know this child was his for many years, heard "rumors" that the mom was saying he was...he took her to court to get a paternity test and have his name listed on birth cert. In doing this, he also had to accept back child support from the years he did not know this child was his, which he agreed to!) The Child Support Agency told us that they would take the tradeline off after a year of on time payments. It has been about 3 years now. I disputed this on all 3 accounts saying "this is not a collection account". It was deleted on the other 2 first time around. On TU, they had it listed twice. One was about $4000 LESS than he really owes, the other the amount was correct. The higher amount, I disputed as a duplicate account. The lower amount I disputed as I did the others. It came back "verified". NOW, I ask you, if they had actually contacted the Child Support Agency, then WHY would they say that this account is correct??? They would have updated it to show the correct amount if anything. It was also listed as verified 1/2002. Now, I did not dispute this until the first week of Feb!!!! So, what do you think my next move is? Dispute again? Send a request to find out how they verified? I thought about just writing to the Child Support Agency and asking them to delete as they said they would.

    Second Issue:
Medical collection. Honestly, this COULD be his debt. It was from 6/1996 (SOL up in June of this year, I guess). He thought he had paid everything at this hospital, but it is certainly possible. This also came back verified. BUT, it says, verified 1/1997! I figured I would send a validation. Does that sound right? I certainly would also be willing to pay for deletion (only $174). Should I try for validation first?

    Third Issue:
I disputed two 30 day lates on a CC. They said they were verified and left unchanged. HOWEVER, when I pulled his report online tonight, they have actually removed these lates. I realize I am asking you to guess why a CRA would do something and none of us know why they do anything, but what is up with that????

The good news is they did delete a VERY bad tradeline (so many, many lates) that he was an authorized user for and they updated an old truck loan that still said he owed $10,000 for when it has been paid off for years!!

So, what do you think? What is my next move???
    Thanks!

#1 - Call the child support people and ask them to do as they said would.

#2 - send the validation letter.

#3 - If it's fixed, why worry about it.

First, congratulations on the late pay deletes. The habits of CRAs and feral cats are mysterious indeed.

Go forward with requesting validation for the medical collection account.

As for Trans Union, you've got a bit of a paper trail going that could result in an easy small claims settlement. But perhaps something easier can be arranged: You said that the child support agency promised deletion after a year of payments. Since it's been 3 years now, and two of the three CRAs have indeed deleted the tradeline, I would simply call the child support agency and ask that they resend the deletion request to Trans Union who apparently missed the UDF the first time around. If you get nowhere by phone, send a letter. Anyway, try something in that direction, and keep us posted!

Ok, six or seven minutes ago I began writing my response. Then I got up to let the dogs out. Then I went to the bathroom. Then I returned and finished my little missive here. Now I find that LKH answered the same question just as well but with 95% fewer words. :) This is the second time that this has happened to me today. I need to go to brevity school.

    Thanks, Doc!
By the way, I am 2 for 2 with the nutcase letter! One even sent a nice little apology note. Hee hee hee...I wish I had known about this site a long time ago, this is getting fun!

All I can tell you Doc is that great minds think alike. It's just that some are quicker than others. LOL!!

    Gillian, 2 for 2 nutcase -- way to go! :) :)

LKH, I love it, lol. Well, I know my logic must at least be in the right direction if I come up with something so similar to your line of thought!
