I have a debit card w/ commerce bank and i got turned down for an overdraft protection line of credit today.

it is so embarrassing that i can't even get an overdraft protection feature on my debit card. sickening. i've had a checking acct with them for like 10 years w/o ever a problem. my acct's been good w/ them. they pulled experian which is my best report at 617. their inquiry knocked it down 8 pts.

i have a bk on there from 99, one $100 dollar unpaid collection acct, and 8 identical paid collection student loan entries for one student loan. the reason they gave me for my non-approval was, "collection accts and late payments."

the really tough thing is that i used to have an unsecured fcnb credit card that i had never been late on once for 3+ yrs before they went out of business and the card had to be canceled. no i can't get another card and i can't even get a line of credit on my debit card. i kept a low balance on my old cxld credit card and was never late....you'd think that would say something.

i'm just so discourgaged and embarrassed right now. i've gotta pull myself out of this b/c i feel like i'm sinking and can never get a leg up.

CHECK AROUND FOR ANOTHER BANK FOR WHAT YOU WANT...THEN GIVE YOUR CURRENT BANK THEIR WALKING PAPERS

...although a 10 year history will be GONE

Since the odds are that his bank is not reporting to CRAs, the history is almost unimportant.

I used to think having a ten year relationship w/my bank might mean something, but it doesn't. It's every consumer for themselves.

I just was saying 10 YEARS IS GONE BECAUSE it should be EASIER to get something out of a 10 year bank than a 1 month old bank...

If you have a substantial amount of $ in your acct, only then will they bend and not lose your business.

yeah, this bank isn't reporting to the cra's at all. if they were, it would be a good thing.

i'm thinking of jetting to another bank. i'd really like to join a credit union. i'm a military vet and i wonder if there's something in my area for that.

the one thing i'm scared of is not being approved for a checking acct somewhere else. i've been hearing of people being turned down for checking accts on these boards. i'm not going to cancel this acct until the new one is established, that's for sure. w/ my luck, i won't even be able to be approved for a checking acct somewhere...despite never writing a bad check.

does anyone have any ideas for what i can do for those 8 identical paid collection accts for the one student loan? any interesting strategies?

    8 DUPLICATE---dispute as DUPLICATE

8 for one account makes the credit report less than 100% ACCURATE

    You said--
*1--one $100 dollar unpaid collection acct
--is this a trouble account that you cannot get rid of or pay?

*2--and 8 identical paid collection student loan entries for one student loan.
--Identical? Identical tradelines as in duplicates? or do u mean multiples like similar but all separate? If dupes I'd dispute and get deletions

the collection acct is from a doctors bill that wasn't paid by my insurance co b/c i selected hmo by accident, when i wanted and thought i selected a ppo. the doctor wasn't covered under the hmo. i want to pay the ca, but only if they delete b/c i've seen what "paid collection" accts can still do to a report. they didn't want to delete so i'm working on this. but i'm not paying unless i can get it deleted.

the 8 student loan acct tradlines are not identical, actually. but they're almost identical. they have slightly different amts and acct numbers. the acct numbers are my ssn + 1 and then +2, etc... they're the same loan but have a tradeline for each semester or something.

Actually, student loans are ALMOST ALWAYS, only for one semester, the accounts are totally separate, UNLESS you consolidate them into one account after the fact.
