Back in Nov 02 I applied for credit with Amerifee. They pulled my Experian report on 11/20/02, AND again on 12/17/02. I only applied once, therefore only authorized one inquiry. Does anyone see a problem when going after them for that extra inquiry? I'd definitely like to pursue this since (a) they added an extra inquiry for no reason, and (b) they turned me down anyway (even with a cosigner!)
    Jerks.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What date did they turn you down? Before or after December 17th? If it is before, I think you would have a case, if after, not sure if you do or not.

Yikes, I don't remember. I know I should have kept the paperwork now, but I was angry about it and pitched it right away.

Well, I think Kak's answer pretty much sums it up IMHO. Why don't you write and ask them?

So, what you're saying is that if you apply for credit, they can pull your report as many times as they want to? If so, that's pretty scary that there is no regulation for that. Theoretically, I could apply for credit, they could legally pull my report 17 times (before replying to me), and meanwhile my score would drop about 80 points as as result. Is that correct? If anything should be "illegal", it's that.

If you feel they've made an unauthorized inquiry, you need to let them know in writing. They would then reply back with a message telling you why they had that second inquiry. At that point, you'll be able to determine where to go from there.

Chase Bank did the same thing to me
