Uh Oh- What now? Online Disputes

When I first started disputing last month I used the online feature of Ex, TU & CSC/Eq. I disputed the payment history of my car loan (still owe 18k- 2 years old) and 2 student loans ($4280 combined - about 8 years old) along with an old paid off Fingerhut account.

My question- if you are disputing payment history - if it isn't verifiable don't they have to change it to paid as agreed/never late? In subsequent disputes I've sent for other accounts I've been very specific since I sent letters and did not use any online dispute.

    The results: Good or bad??

TransUnion - deleted the Fingerhut completely. Ok it had a 120 day late (dropped score 8 pts)

Experian - Deleted both of my student loans ( I still owe over 4000$ on them) - (increased score 4 pts)

    then the big one...

Equifax/CSC actually deleted my car loan with a balance of over 18000. (dropped score over 30 pts)

I'm not sure what to make of this- it seems online disputes (with the limited space they give you) aren't necessarily the way to go since they deleted the whole accounts.

During the next update, the debt will pop back on but I'm wondering if I should wait or point this out to the CRAS

Isn't that like Equifax to completely mix the situation up? Your car loan will come back the next time the company reports. Cross your fingers that your points do too.

I prefer to dispute by letter. Yes, it's not as easy but you can say whatever you want and aren't limited to computer form options.

Thanks. Equifax has proved to be the most difficult bunch.

I just wasn't sure if I should try to correct this. Obviously the debt will come back- but I'm wondering about the payment history. I guess I'll wait & see.

I'm not so sure about this.

TU dropped my auto loan when I disputed the lates.
Its been off since Feb. 14, while the EX and EQ updated with new balance info in March. So I know the auto loan company has reported, but the Tl is still missing from TU.

I wish I could get it back! If someone knows how, please let me know.

    peace,
    delilah

I wouldn't worry about it until you have to.

Out of curiousity what were you disputing with your payment history? Lates?

    Yes.

With the Experian/Student loan deletion- it shows 180 days late when I was covered by deferrment.

You know, it's interesting what you posted about Equifax.

So far they have proven to be the easiest CRA to deal with, at least for us. No mix ups, no screw ups, courteous customer service. Maybe we're just lucky.

EQ & TU on the other hand are driving us nuts, especially TU but that's no surprise I guess.

Maybe it is because I have to file disputes with CSC (subsidiary of Equifax). I'm not sure if that makes any amount of difference.

Experian has been pretty easy about getting things taken care of. I got my score raised 31 pts in 2 months and I hadn't even started dealing with 2 unpaid collections that are showing on my report.

TransUnion did send me a letter saying that they couldn't consider the proof I sent them in their investigation. SO I copied the part of the FCRA that says they do. They then removed the negative comments on the account.

If your car loan doean't show the way you want to you can always call the bank and have them update it.

I was going to suggest the very same. Perhaps even a nice goodwill letter.

do not assume it will just pop up. Remember, if a tradeline is reinserted on your credit report they have to give you notice within 5 days. Now we all know for negatives they reinsert gleefully and never send you the letter but for positives they just as gleefully leave off. Experian deleted a good tradeline of a 2000 card with 0 balance because I disputed their cl of NA. It has been 2 months now and still has not shown up and the exact tradeline has been updated multple times on EQ and TU so I know they are doing it on purpose.

    Thanks.

I'm wondering if letters requesting it to be corrected "AS REQUESTED pursuant to the FCRA" would do any good.
