I sent them an email asking about the Umbrella Air card and the 5,000 point bonus for direct deposit. Here is their reply:

    Dear Mr. DaveLV,

Regarding the umbrellaAIR card, our records indicate that you did not
accept that cross-sell. If you still want the card, please let me know.
Once we get confirmation of the direct deposit (checked monthly), you
should see the 5,000 bonus points within 60-90 days. If you need the
points before that time, we will be glad to work with you on that issue.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail
us at custservice@umbrellabank.com or call us at 1-866-UMBRELLA.

    Sincerely,
    Customer Service

I emailed them back to say that I did indeed accept the credit card. I'll post what they send in reply.

I sent a second email after I sent the one telling them I wanted to accept the Visa asking if they also didn't record my acceptance of the overdraft protection and letting them know I wanted that as well. I got this email this morning:

    Dear Mr. DaveLV,

We will take care of both requests in conjunction with the initial
    deposit.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail
us at custservice@umbrellabank.com or call us at 1-866-UMBRELLA.

    Sincerely,
    Customer Service
    UmbrellaBank, fsb

So it looks like they are going to give me the Visa without a second application. I'll let everyone know what happens next.

Just posting my updated dealing with Umbrella too - hope it's okay I'm using your thread, DaveLV....

I got a letter with my password today. Logged onto the website and there was a savings and checking account listed, although they did't receive my deposit yet.

I called to ask about the visa - I was on hold for a bit but the woman was very nice and said she checked and I was approved, and it's in process and will take a few days to get the card. No biggie.

So, it looks good - a Platinum Visa with rewards and a 9.9% rate with a soft inquiry - can't do much better than that! Yippy Skippy!

    Ozzy.

No problem. My thread is your thread.

It is a great card as far as airline rewards go. Much better than even the Capital One MilesOne card.

I've been looking at the website and it looks like a very good mileage card. Does anyone know if the 9.9% is a fixed or variable rate ?

1Your APR for both new and outstanding balance transfer transactions, and new and
    outstanding purchases will be 9.9%.

I ASSUME FIXED, SINCE IT DOESN'T SAY...

Does it ask for income when you apply for the checking?
If yes, H/H INCOME or INDIVIDUAL?

I don't think they asked about income

It's 9.9% fixed and they did not ask for household income.

    Soft Inquiry - NOT

I phoned the toll free number just now, Tuesday, March 26, and a customer service agent said the inquiry would be "hard."

    I'll phone again.

I've checked my Experian report and there is no hard inquiry from them - just a soft... so maybe you were given false information... please let us know what happens when you call again!

Re: Umbrella Bank Alert Please Read

Hello To those who apply with Umbrella Bank, just wanted to let you know that I have had it with them.... I try to use my debit card to make a purchase this evening and it came back decline I ask the rep to try again and it came back decline again I call customer service and the rep told me that I have to activate the card at an atm before use yeah I did that last nite and got my balance... then she put me on hold and told me that there is a status on my account needed address verification I already send over the info to them numerous of times and the last rep I talk to yesterday told me that the info is receive and everything is fine... well just wanted to let you know that if your address don't match on what you put down on the app they will request for address verification so far I feel like this bank has given me nothing but run around... the only thing the customer service rep told me was yes the person working on that is not in right now and there is no one else I can forward you over to... so at this point I am not only embrass of getting decline on a purchase but there is no customer service what so ever... they are dumb to issue debit card and pin no and checks before the whole verification is completed.... watch out.... please post when you do receive all products you apply for... and as long as I know is only a soft inq on exp credit report no hard as of today.....

    Thx,

    Kev

Re: Umbrella Bank Alert Please Read

I had an account with this company a year ago. I deposited over $500.00 in the checking account and had and odloc of $500.00. Wrote a check and had no problem. Had some car problems and needed to access the odloc. The check was returned. Was told that the problem was not with their system. No one could tell me why the check was returned. I tried to use the debit card to cover the check and it was declined. I was told that the account wasn't linked and it would take a week to link it. I sent a letter to the BBB, my state senator and the agency that regulates them, because I could never be transferred to a supervisor. After that I called to close my account and they said that they had already closed it because my transactions had been suspicious. I would tread carefully when working with Umbrella Bank.

    Kev,

I accepted the visa and the checking account, but was told I declined the visa and choose the odloc. I didn't question them. Now reading these posts I know I was probably suckered into the odloc. The tried to get away with not reimbursing me for the return check charges and the the annual fee for the odloc, but I fought tooth and nail. Good luck on your experience with them...
