Can a collection agency check your credit file? I'm seeing an inquiry from Fred Hanna & Associates on my report. Why would they pull my file if they are just attempting to collect a debt? BTW, the validation letters made them go away, at least for now. They violated the law and my attorney has sent a letter to them re: their contacting me after having received my validation request. They have never provided any form of validation.
Unfortunately collection of debt is a permissible purpose for accessing credit reports. And sometimes the collection agency will keep pulling hurting the score more then necessary. You can try to dispute them off. Which bureau did they pull? If it was Equifax you still might try monitoring service to bump inquires. Experian does not have that available. And TransUnion just changed that system to no longer allow bumpage.
