These people put false information on my credit report (from Equifax). I have never had a credit card in my life and they say it was charged off. What a load of crap! I'm in the process of writing letters and all that good stuff, but what a mess! I contacted both Equifax and UCNB to investigate. What I don't get: Equifax verified that it was a valid debt within the 30 days allowed by the FCRA, but It's been over 30 days and UCNB has not contacted me. UCNB couldn't pull up the file when I gave them my SSN the first time, so something is definitely fishy in South Dakota... Where is Equifax getting their info? And if Equifax verified that it's valid thru the creditor and can get back to me within the 30 days allowed, why is it taking UCNB so friggin' long to get back to me?! Are they trying to find something to put in my file? Isn't that illegal? Sorry, but I had to vent a little. I thought about using Junum, but I might as well learn how to do it, just in case something like this happens again.
RE: United Credit National Ban Sound like you might be a victim of fraud. Someone probably used your information and opened up an account. You need to call UCNB and speak with someone and demand to find out information on the account (ie address and phone number used, etc.). Then ask them to send you a copy of the application that was submitted if it's available. You might also want to contact the FTC and your local Postal Inspector and see what they suggest doing if you are a victim of fraud. Identity Theft is NO JOKE now...2 of my friends have because victims and it's BUNK!When are they saying that the account was opened? I'm sure others will have more to add...
RE: United Credit National Ban I have had a cc with them for about three years. I was four days late one time last year. Now I'm trying to get the 30 days late removed from my all three reports! I called them and they couldn't explain to me when I was 30 days late - they show a payment every month, two some months, with one being posted four days late! All three credit reports have a different month shown as the 30 day late? I told them to remove it or cancel my card - the rep said that I had to write the main office and request the data myself and then forward it to the customer service to show that I wasn't 30 days late. Customer service is in Tampa. I think that I'll pay them off and send them on their way.
RE: United Credit National Ban On the credit report, it says that it was opened in 11/98, 90days late in 3/99, and owe $507, shared acct. But what's wierd: I have 3 separate reports from Equifax (after they investigated and cleared some other things)and they are all slightly different. One says joint account, charged off with nothing past due. another says past due $507, date reported 9/00. What the heck is up with that?!
RE: United Credit National Ban Sounds like an old trick. Someone used your info to apply for a card and added themselves on under 'joint applicant' or 'additional card' (ie authorized user). That's what happened to a friend of mine. A trade appeared on one of her reports from I think? First USA. It was listed as joint. The account was in good standing and all but she didn't open it. So turns out that someone opened the account (who probably had bad credit or no credit) and attached themselfs on the additional card section. They were paying the bill every month and everything and it was probably being reported on their credit also. I guess this would be called "illegal piggybacking" or something? Whatever.... It all got straightened out. The person was actually caught but since they were paying as agreed, First USA decided not to press charges in exchange for transfering the account over to the other person as a "Pay Only" account so they could keep paying. I guess First USA figured that if they pressed charges that the amount would have to be either charged off under bad debt or recieve restitution through the court from the person w/o being able to collect interest. But if they set the person up on pay only status, they get to collect the full amount + interest! Talk about smart!
