I just pulled a copy of my CR and noticed a company by the name of Sherman Acquisition on my report. I have no idea who they are. Under the OC is says Wards, but 3 lines up on my credit report I see MWARD/MBGA and the status is listed as Open/Current, and was last reported on 12/2000. The account numbers on both accounts are the same, but I've never gotten one single notice from this company. Should I send a validation letter?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Ok, sent letter asking for 1. the document w/ my signature, agreeing to pay alleded debt. 2. itemized accounting to substantiate the alleged balance. 3. the agreement w/ original creditor that grants the authority to collect on alleged debt. 4. the address of the agency licensing you. They responded with this, Enclosed is the documentaion you requested re: copy of assigment sheet copy of signed agreement copy of itemized statement As to your #4 request, you can find that information in Public Information Data Sources. Don't they have to provide me with that information, or do I have to search hi and low to find the agency that licensed them??? They are also trying to charge me interest?? Can they do this?
Yes they can charge intrest and make them provide all the info then turn around and make sure the license is valid. Also ensure they are also obeying the laws for your state.
They can charge interest unless your state explicitly prohibits it. You will have to check your state's statutes, or call your state comptrollers office to find out. Gib
Sherman buys "distressed" BK debt. Have you had a BK by chance, that this should have been or was included under?
Is there a sample letter out there that I can send them to make them provide this information to me?? Not sure what to say to them. I know what I'd like to say but it's not very nice.
