On my EQ report I have a collection with

SYSTEMATIC NATIONAL COLLECTION for

PACIFIC MARINE in the amount of $25..

I've never heard of either.. So I know I should dispute this.. but ??

Do I need to find out who this company is and dispute with them or

Do I need to just dispute with the CRA.. if so

I always wondered, it there a more effective way to dispute with a CRA ( like online vs mail)

cuz I dispute a closed account that still shows a balanced.. it showed as verified but it's wrong info.. and now I can't dispute online again.. (this is on EX)

don't make the mistake of disputing with the CRA first. validate with CA first, when you get your green card back indicating that they received your letter (or you can look online now at usps.com and it will tell you when it got there), THEN dispute with CRA.

When we got mine and my husbands CR's, there were several CA's that we'd never heard of or from. We've managed to get all but two removed because they couldn't validate. Of the 2 who remain, one company is trying to sue us for a debt that is SOL (can't wait to get in court on that one), and the other is confused as to who actually owns the debt. Been disputing with this second on for 5 months now, and they won't remove it from my CR.
So, even if you ask real nice, they probably will continue to report on your CR until forced to remove it.
By the way, the letter looks pretty good... good luck!

That sounds like a good letter to me. Doesn't tell them too much and doesn't let them know how much you know.

• Since you've already sent CA a letter, read § 809. Validation of debts. They have 5 days after they receive the letter to send you proper information about the debt. Which means, count 5 days from the date on your GC, give them few more days (for their letter to get to you, if they send one), then dispute it as "not mine" with the CRA, stating that CA has not validated in a timely manner.

You may use this or this letter to dispute with CRA, modify whatever is necessary.

• If I got Butch confused and jlynn with a "Huh???", that's serious ... So, according to the FDCPA:
• § 809. Validation of debts [15 USC 1692g]

(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing --

(1) the amount of the debt;

(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;

Am I missing something???

================
1* 809 is talking about after the consumer has heard from the CA not after the CA has heard from the consumer.

• It is said "... after the initial communication with a consumer ... a debt collector shall ...". Call me stupid, but where exactly does it say that the debt collector must initiate the contact?
