So glad I found this, think I know what a thread is now. We got our CR back with 4 derog's. Unknown Creditor was listed. EFX U 02-03 $7290 N/A $15523 03-03. Comments: EFX: Account submitted by: Professional Re. EXF: UNPAID. Directly under it Progressive Asset Mngm says their acct for $15,875 last reprt'd on 6/3/03....I did get a letter from Progressive but this debt was less than 1/2 of this and it's SOL. I think they also submitted the Unknown one. Because from old CR I recognized the $7290 for Chase, their letter was for Chase. Last activity was in 1996. Everything was reaged. But their letter was for $15,000+, which is ridiculous. Even with 7 years interest The last 2 derog's were for the same acct, one from RMA and one from Unvl/Citi. Both for same amount, but with dif. CRA's. I read in here somewhere not to call the CRA, they would think we were trying to repair our own credit, and would red flag it. We don't have & never have had a CitiBank account. However, in looking futher, I found where they listed a current account Assoc/Citi saying it was open in 03-01. High credit $300. The current acct probably helped our "score" but it's not ours. Citi keeps popping up all over the report. They apparently are involved in many cc companies, like Texaco. I sent registered letters to RMA & Progressive. I hope that was right. What I don't know is how to handle is the Unknown Creditor, and the two that are repeated at different CRA's. I also read that it's best to deal with the CRA's directly, pls help, I'm so confused. Right now the only thing that stands between us and a clean report is these 4 derog's. I've tried to get answers both here and creditboard and I'm doing something wrong, cause I can't get ans'd. If someone reads this, pls let me know what I'm doing wrong, I'll redo, I need help.

First off, and please don't take this wrong, I'm not trying to be rude, just offering insight. Your one paragraph post is hard to follow! I'll try to answer some stuff -

"Unknown Creditor" it is Professional Re (its abbreviated). Call the CRAs reporting it and ask them for their full name and address. If they can't provide it let us know.

"Not call CRA" - confusing the issue. We recommend sending disputes in writing because a paper trail at any given point may become important.

"Using a Repair Agency" - many have been accused of that - it seems to be TU's latest stall tactic. There is a letter in the sample letter forum to handle this issue if it comes up

"Reporting at Multiple CRAs" - not uncommon.

What you will need to do with the CA's (collection agencies) is send dispute/validation letters. There is a "timing" to this, to get the best results. Stuck to the top of the board is a thread entitled "Hall of Fame Postings" (has a red pointer in front of it because mean ole CCN Steve doesn't want us posting to it LOL). Anyway, since you are just starting out, find the thread by Humblemarc about validation. Its a great beginner's thread. Butch's post is very in depth, but read it second.

    Welcome to the board!

Thanks so much for answering. I've posted that in so many ways so many times! No offense taken.

I've printed several things you suggested.

I've gotten my letters ready to mail Monday to the CRA's. It'll be 1 week since I sent registered disputes to the CA's.

These entries are so blatantly false. More than double, and reprt'd by 2 dif places (CA & OC) for the same entry, re-aged and they gave 2 different opening dates . I can't call the CRA's about the "Unknown" it's actually under my husbands name, not sure they will deal with me (he just reads & signs). But after the registered disputes are answered, I'll certainly let you know what they said.

Have you ever heard of a false entry in the good data? We have never had a CitiBank card and they listed a current acct for us under Assoc/Citi and said it was opened 03/01. I also brought that to the CRA'S attn, because I believe Citi is playing games. They bought AT&T Universal Card. We just stuck our heads in the sand for 7 years out of shame and opened no new accts since then. We'd like a life now, please! Thanks again!

    Re: Re: Unknown Creditor/200 Collection

Your goal is to get them off, but at the very least the OC should be reporting a -0- balance and sold or transferred. (Just a little FYI)

Well thats a reason to dispute them, but the all important date is the Date of Last Activity (DOLA)

Did you know there are errors in 70% of all credit reports? LOL

They probably aren't playing games. If you are sure it isn't yours, you may want to get rid of it. I'd hate for it to go bad, and you are stuck with it! Others may disagree. Careful how you dispute it, you do not want a fraud alert on your report. Makes life very difficult when you are trying to go thru the repair process.
    Welcome out of the desert.

This is all very confusing. The only thing that stands out as important here is your accounts are 7 years old. That means you can call the bureaus and ask them to delete the accounts and you are well within your rights.

Why waste time with a bunch of letters that will only result in confusion and overworked CRA employees trying to make sense of all that? Just call them and tell them to take it off your reports. Case closed.

    Re: Re: Unknown Creditor/200 Collection

Today I got answer's (sorta) from both CA's I sent the CRRR's to. One advised the account closed and normally took 3 to 4 weeks to come off our file at the CRA. However, RMA sent an application form for an acct with Capital One! Advised their collection activity would be suspended as soon as we opened the new acct. This will not happen. I sent the CRRR's to the CRA's on Monday. Do I just sit and wait till I hear from the CRA's? Thanks

Do you have an old account with Capital One that was charged off? It sounds like they want you to open an account so they can hit you with a old balance.

Shred that application up. Did you send them a validation letter yet?

No, no old acct with Capital One. They say that they have a deal with Cap One to open a new acct with their charged off balance and we pay Cap One (like transfer of balance), that for every $100 we take off of the old balance Cap One will extend $25 worth of credit up to $1600. No interest on old balance (it was a AT&T Univ Card) and only a 9.9% interest on any new balance created. That would not be such a bad deal but we have the 7 years behind us now, and most of the balance is interest added. This should be all that is left on my husband's CR. Should I wait and see what happens with the CRA? This account was re-aged 2 years. RMA did not offer any kind of proof of validity. Just said they had Purchase Paper LLC. I don't know if you are familiar with WhyChat, but I sent one of his/her C&D letters.

Yes I sent it and that was the answer they sent back. They didn't offer any validation, or even mention it. I've never gotten their green card back but the PO showed me how to follow the CRRR on the computer. I know it was delivered. I mailed a dispute letter I got from the letters on this site to the CRA last Monday. They have to investigate, right?! CitiBank has taken over AT&T Universal card and that's the one RMA is dunning for. They're both on the CR. Both with a different age and both wrong.

    Re: Re: Unknown Creditor/200 Collection

How do you know what's going on with your CR after you've disputed with both CRA & CA? I've sent out 7 CRRR's and gotten the green cards back but only 1 reply saying the account closed and it would 3 to 4 wks to remove from CR. Nothing from anyone else toward verifying or from the CRA's. I really don't know what to expect from the CRA's. Do we absolutely have to join one of the Credit Watch things? That's expensive, we'd have to do it on both of us. I fully intend to carry this to the end if the CA's don't remove these derog's, and from what I've read there will be fileing fees to pay.

Is there somewhere on the board that has the steps to take in ABC 123 order for people like me who are really credit stupid. Thinking that after 7 years of hell passing that the CRA's just magically removed things because they wanted to help people. I read all the time, but it's hard for me to remember exactly where I read it, to be able to go back to it to see if it applies to our case.

    www.privacyguard.com has a special promotion 3 months for $1.00

Then $69 or $89 for a year. You can always call and cancel just before the 3 months are up!

thanks! I'll give it a try! Can you tell me what I'm to be expecting from the CRA's and When? Will they at least let me know they're investigating?

Privacyguard doesn't let you dispute with the CRA's on-line...they give you a tri-merged summary of your CR's from TU,EX,EQ, and let you print out a short form that you have to mail to the CRA

Have you (and/or wife) been denied credit recently? or does your state allow consumers to get a free copy of their report?

If so, then get yours (and wife's) reports sent to you.

If not then it's worth the $9.00 or so for each to have a hard copy as a reference.

The reports will have numbers on them that you can then use to dispute items on-line with the CRA

CRA will notify you by email that they have begun an investigation, and send you the results within 30 days by US Mail

    Good luck,

Even a journey of 1000 miles begins with 1 step!

Yes, we have been turned down for an equity loan from our mortgage co,who knows we have never been late in 15 years. We've recently gotten that letter, because my husband inquired about it on the computer back in early May, they sent papers to fill out which were never filled out and returned. They did a credit check anyway and turned us down before we even actually applied. We were in the process of checking out our credit. When we got the letter from them is when we found out about CSC. I did order a report from them to see what they have. I had sent the CRRR to EXF, having no idea there was any other CRA involved or existed. So, we have CR's on both of us (from June) and one coming from CSC (at least I ord'd it), ...how often do they update CR's?
I hope you can understand what I tried to say, I'm just so anxious for this to be over and it looks like it never will be.
