I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to post the results they've had with disputes with the CRA's. This may have been posted before, but I recently just sent out a bunch of disputes to all 3 CRA's and I'm trying to get an average idea of how many may be deleted. I know this is very different for everyone, but I would kind of like to know how many were disputed, with which CRA and ultimately how many were deleted. This is just a little research to think about while I wait for my results. BTW I disputed 5-6 neg TL's with each CRA. Still waiting....
All I can tell you is that I have disputed a bunch of them and I've had a lot of people dispute and report back to me and the results have been dismal at best. Sure, they get rid of one or another once in a while and so have I before I quit even bothering with it for the most part.
Last month I did 16 disputes online (all 3 reports combined) and about half were deleted...Experian deleted the least amount...included in those deletions were 2 public records, 3 paid collections, 4 unpaid collections...I disputed all of these as not mine..I had trouble with a couple of charge off's and an old repo---I guess on the next go around I will try the validation method.
TU dispute in Dec (during CHOD) - 6 disputes, 5 deletions Exp - (CHOD) 2 disputes, 1 delete, 1 updated to never late TU - Jan - 2 Disputes, 1 delete, 1 updated to never late Exp - Jan - 2 disputes - waiting for results Equ - Feb. - 4 disputes - waiting for results All online disputes...
Related question. Have you disputed some of the same TL's more than once. In other words not deleted after dispute 1, but deleted after dispute 2? Or are these all completely different TL's? Just curious.
The only deletion I didn't get in my 1st round w/ TU came off in my 2nd round. That is the only time I had one left to deal with (everything other than this one TL was either Deleted or updated to never late my first go round)
Maybe I need to start doing some on line. Seems like you guys are doing better on line than I am with letters. How much does it cost to hook up to all three bureaus so you can do disputes? Cost would be quite a factor indeed.
Bill, I don't know if what I have achieved would be the norm. We filed bk in 96 and I never looked at the ugly reports until late last year and believe me they were ugly. Don't forget 2 that I am the idiot that mailed the bk paperwork to TU. My first round of disputes w/ them went like this: Acct 1 - Incl. in bk (deleted) Acct 2 - Incl. in bk (remained, deleted in 2nd round) Acct 3 - Paid in full (deleted, was a CA I pd the month before) Acct 4 - Incl in bk (deleted) Acct 5 - Never late (deleted) Acct 6 - Incl in bk (deleted) My TU Report cost 12.95 (w/ Fico Score) and you can dispute with a file number. My Experian file I got free when denied credit and with a file number you can dispute online. My first round of disputes w/ them went like this: Acct 1 - Never late (LOL they say they updated it and instead they deleted it) Acct 2 - Incl in bk (In said on my report it was scheduled to remain until 2/2002 and well this was 11/2002....their answer was remains but put it on my good side LOL) My 2nd round of disputes is up w/ them on the 28th, should be interesting. My Equifax I paid for the Credit Watch. A pretty penny on that one too oh well... I think the age of my accounts made my deletions alot easier. And alot of this I apparently did the way wrong way and just got very very lucky!!!
This scares me a little, since two of the TL's I disputed were CO's that happened in DEC! Too recent most likely to expect much. Although both Accts were sold to CA's and I disputed the debts with both CA's by requesting validation within the 30 day time frame that I had to dispute the debt. Neither of the CA's validated the debt and it's now beyond the 30 days that I gave them to do so. Also neither of them are reporting to the CRA's as of yet. So I decided to try my luck tackling the OC's TL's first. Both of these are recorded as "0" balance and sold to another lender.
Well, my problem with on line disputes would be entirely different than it would be with anybody else here that I can think of. I don't have any reason to dispute my own so I would be interested in doing it for others who are local to OKC but don't have computers. That would mean that I could very easily having to work with an unknown number of accounts more or less all at the same time. Although it would not be true now I could easily end up with maybe a hundred or more over time, many of them all at the same time. That's the way I would have to figure out how to do. I doubt I could get away with using a proxy server to do it.
I could honestly see it being quite complicated where you are doing others reports. I am somewhat of a neat freak and/or organization freak and I was totally boggling my brain. I went crazy trying to find any of the Credit monitoring places to accept my apo address that I ordered almost all of them and I was in such a frenzy I have no clue which ones went through and which ones didn't!! I don't know much about the proxy server situation but I do know I had 2 friends over that wanted to dispute items and I walked them through it on my computer w/out a problem. I know that is a HUGE difference between 2 and 100's though LOL....I seen your successes...you seem to be doing just fine the way you are doing it!
Proxy servers are no big deal. What they do is make your IP address something else than what it really is. We had a deal like that going on here about a year or so ago where a dude was using a proxy server and posting all kinds of junk stuff. We traced the dude down and it turned he was using a proxy server located about 12 miles off the coast of St. George Island. We could locate him on satellite and look down and see it was a ship out in the ocean and could pick up his actual map coordinates. But so what? fun doing it sometimes and sometimes it is pretty serious business
Does everyone dispute everything bad on their reports and see what happens? I had 4 accounts (well actually 5 if you want to include my car lease that I am still current on) that were included in my BK discharged 9/02. Do I just go and dispute all of these accounts and hope for the best?
I disputed the debts with both CA's by requesting validation within the 30 day time frame that I had to dispute the debt. toothfairy =================== There is no time limit on demanding proof of a debt. Where did you get the idea that there was? The END ************************* LB 59
Jan. disputes for Mom 1 Installment paid, but reporting as neg - deleted 1 30 day late from 1998 - changed to pos 3 Lost/stolen cards from 2+ years ago - deleted 4 Balance updates - 2 updated/2 ignored 8 Unauthorized inquiries - ignored * Updated name/addresses on 3 Jan. disputes for Pop 1 Charge off - deleted by 2, verified by 1 1 Medical collection - "checked" by 1, processing 1 1 Medical collection - verified by 1, not on 2 * Updated name/addresses on 2, 1 refuses Feb. disputes for Pop - awaiting results 1 Collection that has re-aged but is past the SOL 3 Settled charge offs that are past the SOL We have gotten mixed results, as you can see by the sig line - when a TL comes off, the average age is affected, as well as the credit mix. I don't have any neg TLs left, but I have a problem with applying for credit, so my average age is terrible (too many new accts - whats a FICO??). All of our disputes have been done using the online forms and fax (using MightyFax) for the contact info and inquiry disputes. I have also done a few PFBs re: paid closed account deletion. We are using Privacy Guard 3 months for $1 trial and pull all 3 reports daily with this service. It is nice because it gives you a side by side comparison. We also pull EX and TU regularly.
Re: Re: Unofficial poll I was speaking of the letter I received from the CA stating that if I wished to dispute the debt that I should do so withing 30 days. I did and so far they haven't reported to any CRA. That was the idea behind following their advice. And NO I did not have the idea that I had to dispute in 30 days. I fully reallize that you can dispute after the 30 days. Let's stick to the topic please!@
Re: Re: Unofficial poll Heres my and hubbys results: EQ: Me: had 23 derogs round 1: disputed 13; 11 deleted round 2: disputed 7: 6 deleted inbetween: had 3 deleted at random Out of 23 derogs, only have 3 left. Working on those with estoppel. TU: Me: had 22 derogs round 1: 11 disputed; 9 deleted round 2: 13 disputed: 10 deleted Out of 22 derogs, only have 3 left, Working on these with pleadings, lol. TU: Hubby: had 4 derogs round 1: 4 disputed; 2 deleted round 2: 2 disputed-results pending 2 out of 4 derogs left EQ: Hubby had 4 derogs round 1: 4 disputed: 2 deleted round 2: 2 disputed: 2 deleted. Perfect eq report EXP: Hubby had 4 derogs round 1: 3 disputed; 1 deleted round 2: 1 diputed: 1 deleted Only 2 out of 4 derogs left Started in October of 02. The fewer there are, the harder they are to have removed, it seems. All of these deleteions were done by disputing the items with the cras, not validation. Now, time to work on validation.
Re: Re: Unofficial poll Wow! Amazing results on all those derogs. I think you are right about better results the more you dispute at once!
Re: Re: Unofficial poll I dunno...I didnt really think about better or worse results at the time...I was a total newbie. I think that sometimes you get blanket deletions, but sometimes you also get blanket verifications. Seems like I had a tougher time when I only did a few. Others will say otherwise. I really was surprised when I got the updated cr's and they said "deleted" a whole bunch of times. I know this is not the norm. After I disputed, I always thought "crap, I think I did too many", but I guess it works. Keep in mind that each individual has different results. Now, dealing with the ones that are stuck like chuck is a much tougher deal. Now comes the real letter-writing.
