A small unpaid collection is on my credit report that is not mine. I sent a letter to the credit reporting agency disputing the collection and asked them for an investigation.

I just checked my credit report to see if the collection was gone since the 30 days was up.

The collection is still there except now it says paid in full !!!!

How can that be ? I NEVER paid anything because its not mine.

What should I do now ?

    Thanks

So you sent them a debt validation letter? And how did they respond? (Did they respond?)

Either way, you need to send them another one explaining that this is not your debt.

Yes sent them a debt validation letter. I have NOT received anything from the CRA yet.

Now I have to send another letter certified mail and wait 30 more days to see what they do.

    What a system !!!

Thanks Jason for your quick reply.

It sounds like you just disputed with the CRA via mail and let them contact the CA, correct?

Follow Jason's advice and sent the CA a DVL

Correct, isn't that what I was supposed to do ? I thought you always dispute with the CRA first.

I sent the DVL to the CA this afternoon.

You would send a DVL first to the CA. Send certified. When you verify they received it, then you dispute with the CRA.
