Unsolicited Insurance quote?

I had used Nationwide for auto insurance until about 5 months ago, then I switched and went with Progressive. Last week, I get this letter in the mail from Nationwide saying basically, "Here's the insurance quote you asked for". Problem is, I never asked for an insurance quote from them!

I didn't think much of it until today when I checked my TU report and saw that they pulled a hard inquiry to do this report that I never even asked for! Here's the line item:

    07/30/2002
Individual NATIONWIDE NEW M-OH Permissible Purpose = INSURANCE UNDERWRITING

So what should I do? Call Nationwide and complain about it? Dispute it with the CA's? Need some advice here.

This hard inquiry dropped my TU score by 13 points.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

I am going thru this with right now with Farmers. I called them on June 25 from the dealership to get an estimate for a new car. They promised to call me back the next day. No call. I went with progressive also. Then on July 9 I get an estimate in the mail which was sky high. 2 days later on my TU I see Farmers pulled my report. I called immediately and asked who gave them permission and why didn't they disclose that an inquiry would be pulled. They gave me the # to the district mgr in Phoenix. She promised to get it removed, but as of yesterday it is still there. I am calling her shortly to let her know that a letter is on its' way to her demanding $1000 and removal by August 15 or see ya in court.

Thanks for your reply LKH. I just tried calling Nationwide, but their offices are closed. I guess I'll have to call back tomorrow. This kind of crap just really pisses me off though.

Did you send the letter yet to the office in Phoenix? Let me know how your situation works out since you're in the same situation as me.

    Thanks,
    K

Here's my update. I called Nationwide this morning and told them I never asked them for an insurance quote and I never gave them permission to pull my credit report. The customer rep said she's going to mail me out a form that I have to sign and return saying that I never authorized the request and they'll have it removed from my report.

We'll see if I ever get this form in the mail...
