After reading all of the information on this site a few months ago and getting hyped up about fixing my credit, I took the summer and fall off to work on other personal issues and to deal with the two biggest problems on my credit files (two judgments). Now that the judgments are dealt with - one was not mine and the other should not have been entered because I was never served - I am ready to take on all of the other issues that remain as negative items on my credit report. The first two items are collection accounts listed with Arrow Financial. The failed to validate the first one (so now I will demand that they delete it or be sued), and I just sent them a letter about the second. My question deals with an old Macy's (GE Capital Credit) account, with a DOLA of 1999. They never attempted to collect and never dumped it on a CA. The balance is low (sub 500 - I don't have the CR in front of me), so I could pay this off to make it disappear. My proposed line of attack is as follows - Step 1: a - Dispute with CRA where listed b - Send letter to OC asking for proof that it is mine Step 2: If the OC can provide proof, offer to pay for deletion If the OC cannot or will not provide proof, file suit. Step 3: If the CRA does not remove the listing (assuming that the OC does not provide proof), sue them too. Can anyone offer me any input or feedback as to whether my approach is the way to go? I want to try and secure a mortgage sometime late next year so I am trying to get all my crap in order now Thanks for all of your help, Nester
Dispute with the OC, CA and CRA. 35 days later, repeat with ITS. 35 days later, file suit against the CRAs to clean up whatever is left.
