Well, I called the CA I settled my CC balance with and angrily demanded a removal from my reports. Of course, she denied me and said they never do that. I said I'd wait until I got a recent crdit report and if their report was unsatisfactory, I'd sue. Anyway, I'm thinking that I will try to send a knockout type letter to them; see what happens. If that ends up failing, I think I'll just lay low for a while, until the holidays, try some disputes.
You say you settled...but did you send payment? If not, you still hold the cards. Write them back and say "my settlement offer of the alleged debt, includes deletion of the listing, I will accept nothing less. Please sign the settlement from attached" (which includes the agremment to accept xxx$ in return for satisfaction of all debts owed and deletion of the listing). If they want the cash, they will agree to your terms. -Peace, Dave
I wish I had done that. That was months ago when I knew absolutely nothing about my credit or my rights under the FCRA.
Ok so you paid...don't think it is over. There are several tactics which may prove successful after you have paid a collection account of charge off. Not the least of which is simple disputes every other month until they get deleted. Also there are goodwill approaches and nutcase approaches which can help from the creditor and CA end. Bottom line is, it is not over. Keep trying, persistence is the key. -Peace, Dave
