May I ask the board for immediate advice for a real issue? I have not every asked for help but I would like to know what the "friends" on this board who help others have to say about my situation.

For the past two years I go into my local credit union to see if I qualify for a loan. For these same two years the same person has waited on me. And for the same two years, this person has made snippy remarks. Yesterday, however, was the final straw.

This credit union rep actually screamed at me in front of others that I was not getting a loan and coming in too often to apply for one. Moreover, since I only go into the cu once every six months, I didn't raise my voice but I told her that I was filing a complaint. She told me that she wouldn't be fired and was wasting my time.

My question to the board is: am I wasting my time filing a complaint? I talked to the executive office and they said it was a training issue. But when I talked to the manager at the branch office where all this rudeness and hostility took place, I got the impression that the manager was in on the game.

If I do file a letter what is important to say? How should I start the letter and what is best to say and not sound like someone who got his feelings but someone who wants to be treated like a human being. Is it worth it?

Or should I go back into the office and scream my head off and embarras her??

    Thank you for a response.

Personally I would have flown off the handle, but I'm a little bit of a hot head.

Try writing a letter detailing what transpired on your last visit and previous visits. I would send the letter to the branch manager and copy the head HR person in the company as well as one of the executives. Above all take your business elsewhere. You don't need to deal with that kind of crap.

There is a book called How To Say It. If you need ideas on different types of letters I would suggest this book. I have found it usefull in many situations.

    Good Luck

I agree with Ed on this one. It always escalates to a very ugly situation whenever someone is blatantly being rude to me.

This is my philosophy: I am the customer and without my money, you don't have a job and the company wouldn't exist. You are not doing me a favor by being here; I am doing you a favor by my presence being here.

That being said, I would complain to everyone who had an ear and demand action. Let them know the consequences of the actions of the people who did you harm( list their names and give times and dates), that they will no longer have your business and if anyone asks you about this business, you will have to relay your awful experience. And ask them if that the kind of information that they want you to give out when someone asks about their company. go to the BBB, PFB and any other outlet you can think of to complain to including writing a letter to the upper executives of the bank.

Let them know you won't take that sort of treatment ever.

In addition to what Milkmom said about sending your letter to the execs at the credit union, also consider sending a copy of your letter to the credit union's board of directors. This will not only embarrass the parties involved, but should get you some type of action. The board needs to know that its low level employees, as well as its supervisory staff, are allowing this kind of unacceptable behavior.

And if all else fails...take your money elsewhere! There are lot of places that would like to take your money. And there are plenty of good credit unions out there.

Good luck, and sorry for your experience.

I don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but, do I understand that you don't actually have an account at this Credit Union?
If your only business dealing with them is to go in "every 6 months" and apply for a loan, then perhaps you might wish to rethink your reasons for going in there at all.

I thought you could only apply for a loan with a CU if you were a member.

I can assume that someone with the "nick" of John Galt is an Ayn Rand fan and does things his own way, therefore he may not be a member of the Credit Union, he did say it was "local" not that he belonged to it.

Hi everyone. Thank you all for your input.

I have a checking account with my local credit union. I bank by atm. but I have been trying to get a loan. To my dismay, my score isn't right for the cu's category.

I am firing off a letter and doing everything the board members advised.

BTW, I am an Ayn Rand fan. The only drawback to doing things your own way is never letting the so called "small things" in life get you down. It's my one fault. I take far too much without handing it back. Then when I've had enough, I explode.

Perhaps "John " you could get some help here on getting your credit scores higher,so that the insufferable clerks of the world wouldn't have any justificaton for their attitude.

I would also send off a complaint to the

"agency" that oversees Credit Unions, I

    believe it's called N.A.C.U.<National Association

    of Credit Unions>?

In addition, the BBB is worth a shot too,

and if you really want to get their attention,

call your local newspaper as well.

    Don't get mad, get EVEN!!!

I also agree if any half wit idiotic employee ever screamed in my face for simply applying for a loan i would be writing letters to his or her superiors until the cows came home. This only goes to show again the arrogance of some lenders. It's one thing to not quailfy for a loan but to scream in my face is quite another thing.

    Thanks

If anyone treated me so crappy, not only would I have a letter sent to the president of the credit union, as well, as the manager of the so-called employee, but I would pull out my money real quick.
The way I look at it is that customer provides me with a job and a paycheck I would never consider being rude to one, unless the customer was just a plain psycho (but that's different).
