hi there, i recevied a letter a couple days ago from experian stating they verified the account i had with nelnet and that the oc verified as accurate,so i sent a nutcase letter to nelnet and this what they said stating they were unable to verify the account i disputed as not mine and want me to provide the account number. i had already provided the account number that is on my credit report! what other account number am i going to give them if i am disputing the account is not mine. now experian does not want to re-investigate , so what shoul i do next. thanks
i never had an account with them, that why i am arguing with them that i had never had an account with them. this account is from 1997
Allegedly opened in 1997, or went delinquent in 1997? If it went delinquent in 1997, it shouldn't even be showing on your reports, but if it is not yours, I would still dispute on that basis. Send nelnet a copy of your credit report page, with unrelated info blacked out, indicating their tradeline. State that this is not your account, yet they have falsely verified it to the CRA. Demand that they remove immediately. Include a copy of their letter, and a copy of the CRA investigation result "verifying" the account. Send it CRRR. Your next step may need to be to take them to court, so you want this letter to lay out in black and white 1) What you are disputing, 2) why you are disputing it, 3) that they have this tradeline on your report, 4) that they claim they cannot find the account, and 5) that they are verifying it to the CRA, and 6) that since they have received this letter, they are aware of all of the above. Keep copies of everything, along with your Certified receipt, green card, and USPS website delivery confirmation. This letter is addressed to nelnet, but also outlines what you want a judge to know if it comes to that.
If you never opened an account with them, why would you give them your SSN, DOB, DL, bank account number, or any other identifying information? You are not opening an account now. They are posting the account on your credit reports, and it only takes your name, and possibly address, for them to do that. They didn't need your SSN to put it on your report. They should be able to remove any error with your name, your address, and a copy of what they have put on your report, including any account number they are reporting. Even if they are reporting their own account number in error, or are reporting it on your report instead of someone else's, which may be the case, they should be able to remove it based on what they are reporting.
Nelnet appears to be a student loan company. If they are erroneously tying you to someone else's government guaranteed loan, you will want to get on top of this quickly, due to the possibility of the streamlined collection methods available that might be used. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/07/northwestern_data.html
