I installed the new Microsoft IE security patch Q321232. If you install it you can't use IE to access your FICO score! ! You can see your report but not your score. I can still use Netscape. I am also having problems accessing my report through CE this morning, but it won't work even with Netscape, so it may be an unrelated coincidence. Anybody else having CE problems this morning? (I can see the page with the score and graph etc.-- I just can't pull my report) Also-- the tech guy at Equifax warned me that I am close to making my report too long (I know others here have had that problem) I guess it is time to go cold turkey.
Not to get of the subject BUT - nowhere does it say that making your file too big is a problem when you sign up for Creditwatch. So, if that happens and you can no longer access your file online, are you not entitled to a refund????
The tech casually offered me a refund if Microsoft couldn't help me uninstall the patch. I came up with the idea of using Netscape! I think they will give refunds, but it is a silly problem. Why can't they come up with a fix?
Thanks KittieKat-- I felt jinxed this morning! First, I couldn't get my report on CE. Then I couldn't see my score on FICO. Because the pop-up warning screen referenced security, it made me think that I had just installed the new patch last night. I called tech support at EQ, and sure enough. They offered me a refund, but then I said what about Netscape. I am glad that the CE problem is unrelated, bc it won't work on Netscape either. Are the credit Gods trying to tell me something? <g>
Credite expert gave me this: The system is currently unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later. CreditExpert is a consumer credit information web site from Experian, the nationâ??s leading credit bureau. CreditExpert offers online access to Experian credit reports and a wide range of interactive tools to help consumers better understand, manage and protect their personal credit information. Well i tryed again and i can see the pretty graphs, but cant pull a new report.
I have no problems with this... i see everything. What operating system are you using? XP,2000, 98,etc..? If you're using XP there's a very simple way to correct the problem "System Restore" It will restore you're system back to a working condition before your problems. Did the Microsoft Tech go over that with you? That's strange you both are having the problem. I'm always up to date on patches, drivers, and etc.., I'm using the current IE Browser and no worries for me man... Where did you get the patch? From Micro$oft or a thrid party website?
I gouldn't pull my report either. Downloaded the patch earlier this AM. It said "system problem, unable to access report."
I was watching t.v - cnn during lunch today 1:30 p.m. est and they were showing a story on Ford Motor credit and Experian. Apparently, hackers got into the Ford Motor Credit database and used that to gain access to the Experian database and inquire into 13,000 credit files. They were telling people to check for any unauthorized inquiries by Ford Motor Credit. They targeted affluent Ford Motor customers and a select affluent area in Michigan. They don't know who did it or how they gained access. I think this may explain why you can't get online access to Experian. I tried to check on Doc's trick dispute and it wasn't giving me access either. I am not subscribing to CreditExpert.
McAfee sent me a notice about the patch, but it is right on the Microsoft Website and that is where I downloaded it. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp Microsoft says: Impact of vulnerability: Six new vulnerabilities, the most serious of which could allow code of attacker's choice to run. Maximum Severity Rating: Critical Recommendation: Consumers using the affected versions of IE should install the patch immediately. Affected Software: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 They made it sound pretty darned important. (But they didn't tell me they would screw up my viewing my Fico score I have been promising myself to cut back to once a month from once a day checking anyway. But shouldn't Eq tech people fix it on their ends? (By the way, per the warning box that popped up, evidently there is insecure info on the FICO score page. That is why IE now blocks it. Computer-people- does that mean our FICO scores are vulnerable to hacker's viewing them?)
After today's attack on Experian you can best believe there will be new procedures in place. The Visual Basic Guys are hard at work now..... For all who are trying to figure out which jobs are going to be the hottest to get into in IT.. SECURITY..... YOU asked if our FICO scores are "Hackable"... Well what type of connection are you using? 56K is a Hackers Nightmare... Cable & DSL connections are the ones they prefer because of the constant connection. A good Firewall and properly configured will save you. ZoneAlarm is awesome. The Stealth Feature allows you to not be seen, and you can't hack what you can't see. Update all your Virus Definitions and Configure your Firewalls and you can surf and be safe without any worries. Make sure you configure your email Client(Outlook,Outlook Express, Lotus Notes, and etc...) Some one tried to slip a Trojan Horse in the back door on me, but good old Peter Norton saved the Day..
I found it funny that EX didn't have a press release about this in their media section. Still boasting about their 128-bit encryption & urging people to join.
That'll be forthcoming..... When you're in an apartment lease and your living conditions aren't up to par, you can break or get out of your lease because of that. I gurantee EX will be sending out reassurance letters and emails hoping people won't demand their money back or want to cancel due to this Breach...............
