Who is USA Platinum? Did they say specifically it was a VISA, or a MasterCard? Is it this company: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff34548.htm http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff148924.htm http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff148401.htm http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff147800.htm http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff138474.htm http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff136958.htm Also go to bbb.com, and look up BBB report on "USA Platinum" in PA. Interesting.
There is no guarantee that the scammer wouldn't attempt to debit your account again. It may be too late to put a "stop payment" on a check, but it's not too late to close the account and re-open a fresh account. The links provided by "ontrack" are well-worth the reading.
See the BBB report for the phone number that seems to have resulted in some refunds. File a complaint with the PA state AG if you don't get prompt results.
It appears that they not only charge you a one-time fee, but may also charge you a monthly charge until you stop them.
zeratul, Here is the customer service number for USA Platinum: 1-800-580-1065. Since emails can easily be "lost" in cyberspace, you may have better luck talking to someone in person regarding the status of your new card. Good luck! Lisa
The USA Platinum Plus Credit Card is a legitimate card that is designed for those with poor credit who are looking to establish credit. The card has some pretty significant fees of anywhere between $200 - $400 for the first year of membership, but for this type of card, that's considered reasonable. Card has no annual fee, and no interest rate on purchases. The primary drawback of this card is that it can only be used for retail purchases through the USA Credit sponsored website and catalogs. From the BBB report: "The company has an unsatisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau due to a failure to eliminate the basic cause of customer complaint. The company has responded to customer complaints processed by the BBB usually by offering a refund and an explanation of its position. Customer complaints deal with USA Credit using a check draft to withdraw funds from the credit applicants? checking account to cover charges connected with the membership application. The customer contends they are unaware of monies to be taken from their checking account. USA Credit replies advising the applicant has agreed to this withdrawal by providing the routing numbers for their checking account. USA Credit offers an unconditional 30 day cancellation and refund policy. The customer advocacy hot line number established for this purpose is 1-800-634-6730. " They told the BBB they have "an unconditional 30 day cancellation and refund policy." If you want to cancel, better do it quick, in writing, CRRR, so you have a paper trail should you need to take additional action. To establish a contract, the complete terms to be agreed to must be clear to the consumer before agreement, not added later or contained in some later disclosure. You be the judge.
There's no question that these cards have garnered their share of complaints with the BBB. The clarity of disclosure of their fees should unquestionably be much better. Bill H. http://www.creditcardassist.com
Given the number and consistancy of complaints, we can infer that their manner of disclosure is by choice.
