After moving from California a few years ago I began to receive past due final utility bills from So. Cal Edison. I paid the final bill in person (the average bill for me at the time was $75.00) and watched as the person accepting the payment input my new address in MD. I requested copies of the bills when they started telling me I was past due and all the service periods were for the 3 months following the month I moved. They didn't bother to disconnect the service and the new tenant ran up 480.00 in electric service over 3 months. Subsequently reported to my credit file. I argued with the CRA's for months and only got the "Verified" response. I mailed a validation letter to the utility two weeks ago and received this: "This letter is in response to your inquiry concerning the above referenced account. SCE has agreed to remove the account completely from your credit profile and has contacted the credit bureaus to DELETE this account." Thank you LK for that validation letter!
What you may not be aware of is that in exactly similiar circumstances, i.e. where false information was provided to a credit bureau by a creditor about a consumer the courts have routinely awared as much as $25,000 to $100,000 with no need to prove monetary loss or damage to the consumer. References to some of those cases complete with cites have been posted on this board. The search function should reveal those cases I reference and you con find them and see if they do indeed fit your circumstance. Who knows, you just might be able to enjoy a very merry xmas on their funds this year or next.
