    AAARRRGGGHHH!

On TU I have a collection account for which I have absolutely no information (that is, I don't know what it is for and don't think that it is mine).

I wrote up my validation letter and called the CA to find out the account # so I could be sure to send a complete request. They did not have access to the account number because all of their files from 1999 and before (which he could determine from the portion of the account number that was included on the CR) are in storage.

I decided to send my letter anyway (what else could I do? The OC is merely listed as "CLN"). I received my green card back today. I also received (separately, of course) my original letter from the CA. They have handwritten on it:

"Not enough info: Please provide complete account #." They have also requested that I provide them with 1) date of birth, 2) SSN, 3) maiden name(s), 4) credit agency reporting collection. On the back of the letter they have also handwritten "You many also consider contacting that credit reporting agency and have them file a consumer dispute verification. P.S. You may want to call me at XXX to save time and money."

Now I'm in a validation loop -- I can't get an account number from them but they won't validate until I give them a account #.

    Next steps?

    Thanks!

    Merlin Merlin Merlin!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your glass is not half empty its 3/4 full!!!!!!!!!!

    Think!

They have already admitted they can't find you, and don't even know WHERE they are reporting it.

No ask yourself, if you dispute with TU, how the heck are they going to verify it? They have already admitted they can't find it.

Simple fix is to snip the loop.

In no way should you EVER answer this type of letter from a CA if they have not provided validation. You have a LEGAL right to request these identifying documents and they have a LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY to provide them to you once you request it. If they have not provided them, they are attempting collection illegally and can no longer report the information on your credit file.

When they send this kind of letter they are really telling you that they can't validate.
You just have to be smart enough to be able to read between the lines.
Upon reciving such a letter from a ca it's time to demand the listing be removed from your reports.or you can just continue the validation process and nail them with a suit in the end.

Thanks all! Sometimes they get me so annoyed I can't see the forest for the trees!

    I will dispute with TU.
