I have some questions about validation of credit card debts. Is a signed application with all the small print things we read, but fail to understand ( about defaulting and turning over to a collection agency and still collecting interest, etc.) attached considered Validation of the debt? I would think that this just verifies that we held such account. I understand the term of validation as proving the amount owed, not some signed application. Could a credit card company claim any amount of charges, but without printouts how can they prove the amount owed? When reqesting validation of a credit card debt can you request printouts of charges, payments, fees etc? If not, then what would stop a creditor from adding bogus charges to a bill?
You can and SHOULD ask for printouts of whatever they say you owe. You owe it... make them show you how it was itemized. But don't be surprised when the show you some crap about interest on late fees, overlimit fee adjustments, fees for having a late fee on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, etc...
