Validation Question

I requested validation from a CA concerning a medical bill. They sent me a photocopy of a bill from the OC, which does contain my name, address, date of service, what I was treated for, etc. No signature, but it's for lab work, so I wouldn't have signed for anything with them directly anyway, I don't think. Is this proper validation? I'm thinking no.

If it's lab work Buck, it's probably not a lot of money.

Have you tried talking to them about pmt. in exchange for deletion?

    ???

You're right, it is not a lot of money, and I could easily pay it. I initially disputed it in an effort to keep it off of my CR. I don't think it's being reported (yet). I was going to argue the fact they didn't properly validate, but perhaps I'll try the "civil" approach and offer full payment if they keep it off.

We should almost always try that first.

Is there a reason your ins. failed to pay it?

*Is there a reason your ins. failed to pay it?*

That is a WHOLE other story...for some other board, probably. LOL

    No Buck!!!!!!

If your ins. should have paid it but didn't it may be uncollectible.

Other than not having ins. maybe we need to address this.

    What BUTCH said in triplicate...

In most cases where the bill is covered by insurance but denied, it is not your responsibility.

And in some cases, your insurance company MAY HAVE PAID... even the day after the OC sent the bill to collections, and they conveiniently 'forget' that they sent it off to collections so that they can 'forget' to call of the collection agency...

Until you threaten both the CA, and OC with insurance fraud for double-billing... Then you'ld be surprised at how fast they figure out how the phone works to call the CA and tell them that they submitted the bill to them in error...

The best thing is to get from the insurance company a) whether it was paid, or b) why it was denied. And if it was paid, ask for a copy of your insurance company's cancelled check for proof of payment because they sent you to a collection agency for non-payment.

Then you go to the OC tell them that they have to immediately call the CA, or you will proceed to file a complaint with the insurance company, the state, and anyone else who is in charge of regulating them.

My sister has had this happen, and the CA was basically calling a few times a day, and a few times within an hour on occasion; for a bill that was paid, but paid late because the OC REPEATEDLY SUBMITTED the bill wrong.

That's what brought me here. They misappropriated the payments to someone elses account.

Which "they"? The insurance company, the OC, or the CA?

    Re: Re: Re: Validation Question

A key component of "validation" is what payments have already been made, whether by you or by your insurance, since the actual amount due and collectible cannot be determined without this.
