Ok dumb question but I would like someones opinion anyway. I received a validation response from a collection agency yesterday (after threatening them I would sue) They sent me a doctors office admittence form which DID show my signature on but with a seperate printout with the charges. Is this all I can expect from a doctors office bill/validation or should there have been a procedure charge somewhere ON THE DOCUMENT I SIGNED(not just on the prinout) I'm concerned because they originally told me the charge would only be for a standard office visit - but then I get a bill for $160 .........of course now the CA WANTS $200. Should I settle this for $160, $200 or should I ask for better validation. Thanks, Sal
If I were in your shoes, since they have something signed by you and the debt is yours ( I assume) I would pay the doctor's office, NOT THE CA, and get the doctors office to agree to make the CA take their listing off your credit reports. But that may only work if the debt is assigned, and not sold. If the account was sold, then the doctor's office is out of the loop and you probably would have to deal with the CA. In that case I would settle with them BUT settle with the agreement that they will delete their account if they have reported to the CRAs (if not, get the promise that they will not report). I would ask for itemization of the $200 they claim you owe.
