I was listed as an AU on one of dh's dept. store CC's - now unpaid charge-off. I disputed all 3 CRA's last month. Figured it would come off...no problem. Right? NOT!!! Just checked CreditExpert and it's been verified by EX. How can it be verified if it's not my acct.??!! (OK, rhetorical question!)
Somebody tell me what to do next. This is by far my biggest black mark on my CR's. I want this taken care of.
I guess I should send validation to OC. The CA isn't even listed on my CR. I just want to YELL at EX. It's in B&W on my CR, that I'm an AU!!

Have you called the cc company to have yourself removed as an AU?

Did you complain when it was on your report reporting good credit history? "just playing devils advocate.." :)

I would check the FCRA requirements pertaining too reporting AU's to the CRA's.

Needless to say your going to have to go through the OC at this point. Send them a prove it or remove it letter.. You never signed a contract, which is a essential part of validation. It will get removed, but will have you climbing the walls trying to get it done.. Sorry.. :(

That´s correct. You have to call first to have yourself removed as an AU and then in a month or two disput it with the credit report agencies.

I had myself removed as a AU from a X girlfriends account. Only thing it did was stop reporting monthly.. No negs on the acccount so I never disputed.. Still shows open.. but the balance hasnt changed in like 2 years.. I am not complaining.. its one of my oldest tradelines.. :)

Glad the balance was 0 when I had myself removed from the account..

No, I haven't called. I didn't even know I was an AU on this card until I pulled my report for the first time EVER last month. When I saw the listing, I thought it would come off easy enough by disputing.....guess I "thought" wrong.

There are no FCRA requirements for AU's :(

Try as Geo suggested. It worked like a charm for me, on a CO that DH was being reported as an AU - its poof gone.

Agreed.. Dont waste any more disputes on it until your removed as a AU.. otherwise.. you will get the "we have previously verfied this information" and then let the real headaches start...lol

although I'm a newbie, i practically feel like an expert in this AU field already. Everyone who is telling you to get your name removed from the account (thru the OC) is correct. thing is, i'm not sure how difficult that will be since this has already charged off. all my experience has been with accounts that hadnt gone to collection yet. I would first call the OC, have yourself removed, and see if they'll send you something in writing that says your name has been removed from the account. you probably wont be lucky enough to get them to send a letter saying they'll have the TL deleted. it'll probably just have some crap about how they will 'stop reporting the information on this account to CRAs in your name' which is very vague. notice they dont say they will DELETE all the negative remarks that are already on your CR. Thats what you have to fight tooth and nail for. After you get the letter, send a copy of it to EX along with a 'not mine' letter and see what happens. Mine came off EQ and TU very easily. Its Experian i'm still having trouble with also. If you still dont get it deleted after 30 days I have a pretty good letter I just sent to experian you can look at.

this AU thing can be a really good thing for your credit, or it can really suck. There really should be some FCRA laws pertaining to it. (in our favor of course, lol)

Good point! Thanks for the advice everyone. Just wishing I would have called last month to take care of this. Guess I learned my lesson.

    UPDATE

Called the company's CC dept. and spoke with a very helpful young lady. She took my info. and said that I'd rec. a letter in 7-10 bus. days stating that I'd been removed and that my CR's will be updated. I can handle that.)
