Verified as PAID Collection! Not.

Help! What do I do now???

I was certain that my most recent dispute with EX would fail to be verified, and I assumed it would be deleted. I had only 2 days left before the 30 days were up.

Well, EX just sent me a verification notice but did say, however, that the collection account was UPDATED to a PAID COLLECTION status!!! Well that's better than it was, but I can assure you that I NEVER paid this collection account, lol, since it is NOT mine.

Furthermore, I had already sent an etoppell letter to the CA over two months ago. I told them I would sue them if they continued to service this account (i.e. I fired them). How can they *verify* after receiving an estoppell?

Plus, this isn't my account...and I haven't sent the CA or anybody else a dime. I just read somewhere that I must wait 6 months to re-verify!!!!! Is this true?

Plus, can I send a Validation Letter to the CA, even though I have already sent the Cease & Desist? This is such a bummer...it is so unfair and wrong. What a hassel. My credit report shows that this black mark will not come off until 2005!!!!!

Do I have any options left? Please advise.

Your only options are to send an intent to sue letter to both Equifax and the Collection Agency.. If they still dont comply you will have to sue..

I am going through the same thing right now with Experian and Money Control a Collection Agency..

Geez, that is NOT what I wanted to hear Kev, lol! But, I suppose you are right. I'm just tired of this mess and wish there were an easier way to deal with this bogus account. Thanks for the info.

As I understand it- a collection agency can only be sued if they are reporting "bad" information. What some are doing,to avoid being hassled (and to get even) is to report a disputed account as "paid in full"

Whack them and whack them hard! If it is not accurate whack them both.

Thanks LK for letting know the procedure. I think this is what I will try before resorting to a lawsuit. I appreciate everyone's input here. This board is an invaluable source of support :)

Even if you do as Lizard suggested, which I agree with, i would suggest you also file complaints with your state atty. general and the atty general for the state the ca is in. You might be surprised at how quickly it gets deleted. I did that with one of gulf states accts and within 3 of my complaint to my state banking dep't. (governs ca's in Az.) it was deleted.
