I have been doing self credit repair since I started reading this board the last month and half. I have had some items removed and one item verified by EQF. It is this item (unpaid dental collection) with a CA I need help on.

I sent a dispute to EQF and which was quickly verified. I then sent a letter requesting procedures, names etc. used to verify the account. EQF responded by supplying a copy of fax signed by someone (I have the name) at the CA. Basically the CA just verified my name, SSN, DOF and previous address.

This is a small ($89) old collection account from 1996, which I really had no knowledge of. The thing is that I never received notice of the collection, so there was no opportunity to pay for it at that time. I must have moved shortly before or after that. The thing is they never made an attempt to contact me.
Are they not in violation of something here?

Should I send a validation letter? What do I say in the letter? Should I settle? I really donâ??t want to pay unless they can remove it from my records. How should I proceed? Suggestions or comments?

Credit repair is really exciting after all. Noticed how you felt when you could not get into creditnet?

How would you know that if you had moved?
I can't imagine what it would be.
That should have been your first move immediately upon discovery of the problem.
That you demand that they validate the debt, of course
Why on earth would you do that?
That's highly unlikely. It does happen sometimes, but getting it done can be a real hassle. The way I look at it is that once they put it in collections, they had better know the law real well, and abide by each and every demand made upon them by the law or they may find themselves with more problems on their hands than they ever imagined could befall them.

I have become a believer in validation letters. On a debt this old, it is unlikely that they still have your records. Therefore they cannot validate.

Do the Lizardking validation letter. Make sure you ask specifics - your written agreement to pay, date of service, etc. Do not just ask for proof - they will send you your name , address, ss#. Make them work for their money.

On my recent validation letter, the CA deleted rather than do the work involved.

So you made a believer out of them?? That's great. Way to go!
