On 8/16 pulled a copy of my wife's credit report and noticed the following item listed from Airtouch/Verizon Date Opened: 12/1995 Date Closed: 12/1995 30 days past due 1 time, 60 days past due 0 times, 90 days past due 3 times. My wife never had an account with Airtouch/Verizon. On 8/19 disputed with Equifax by phone and haven't gotten a reply back yet. Checked her report last night and saw no comment regarding dispute, Last Reported date changed from 7/1996 to 9/2002 and her FICO had dropped by 30 points. I believe my mortgage lender, who pulled reports 2 weeks ago, told me he saw the dispute comment. This leads me to believe that Verizon verified the tradeline. Correct? I assume now I'll have to send dispute/validation letter to OC? Where do I send the letter to, I have no address since she never had the account. Do we call EQ and ask them what Verizon's address is? I have the full account number only because TU lists it.
Just a suggestion here. Verizon has bought up numerous other companies. Did she have an account with another company that was purchased by Verizon and then the account was transferred? This does not solve your problem, but may give you an idea where this is coming from. And, if my hunch is right, I seriously doubt Verison has any documentation to back up the payment history.
The tradeline is listed as Airtouch on EQ and Verizon Wireless on TU. Airtouch, GTE and BA (don't quote me on BA) merged into Verizon Wireless. She never had a cellular from Airtouch but obviously the account information got transferred from Airtouch to Verizon.
Since that is almost 7 years old, I would start demanding that is negitive info and 7 years old. I would also demand it does not belong to me.
Mephisto, I've spoken with Verizon many times in the last couple of months. I had an Airtouch account that was over 12 years old and started showing again as a current pd chgoff. I had 2 letters from Verizon stating the account was paid over 10 years ago and another that said it should be removed. After 2 disputes TU verified both times. I finally got someone at TU to accept the letters from Verizon and yesterday I received the deleted note from TU. I spoke to two different people at Verizon and both were very helpful. I'll post the Verizon contact info I have when I get home tonight.
Mephisto, I would call them, others may disagree, but since this is definately not your wife's account, it will be the most expedient way to get it off. Not to mention, how could it be late 90 days if it was opened and closed in the same month/year? 800-723-1010 (Airtouch) Verizon 1515 Woodfield Road Suite 1400 Recovery Dept. Shaumburg, IL 60173 I spoke with Angela the first time, she immediately recognized the fact that the account shouldn't be reporting and sent me a letter stating that fact and sent a UDF to all 3. Still somehow (???) TU verified the account. And this is the number and address that they contacted!! WTF? 2nd time I spoke with Reshell (x4224) in collections, she faxed me a letter and promised to update the records to make sure it didn't show up again. TU in their infinite wisdom, verified my second dispute. I finally got a hold of someone at TU who would honor the letters from Verizon and finally, its gone. It also appears that their email addresses are firstname.lastname@verizonwireless.com
Thanks Pat, We were closing on our mortgage today which stated that we'd have to pay the $134 balance or show proof that the debt is not hers. So she called Verizon up and they agreed that the account is in error and doesn't belong to her. Told her they had no notice of EQ verifying. Will send deletion notice to EQ and TU (not reported on EX) and fax letter to our mortgage broker stating that debt not hers. Luckily her scores are high enough that there wasn't any impact on our rate or I'd make them pay for it. Of course EQ is all screwed up and we can't check her report until tomorrow morning due to the 24hr between reports.
